I used to be an Airman, and my tech school was a joint-facility with every branch of the Military. From my experience, the Marines have by far the worst standard of living and have to put up with the most bullshit (constant inspections, can't leave base without being in dress blues) but that was just tech school.
I think enlisted marines in general pride themselves on being treated like shit. it's one of those things that just comes with the job.
Also, marines actually have to work for their ribbons, the rack on your average marine will be a lot smaller than your average airman. Which I think is a good thing, the Marines and ARMY are the most 'traditional' branches of the Military.
If you were my kin I would try and convince you to join the USAF or the ARMY over the Marines, but if it's your dream, chase it.

The rest of it will be b.s., truthfully, unless you are in a really cool MOS and/or do deployments. While I was in the reserves I had opportunities to deploy but didn't because my MOS sucked.
