Ehh, if you're talking big name companies, probably the Colt 6920 is what you'll hear. M&P is good, but Colt is better.

Then there are other options 'out of the box' from smaller companies like BCM and Daniel Defense... and then there's even more specialty companies that will hit you for $2k or more.

Just be glad with what you get, and upgrade the various parts as you see fit. When you're done upgrading, you'll have enough parts for a 2nd AR.

Rock River ARs are extremely good for the price. I used to work at an AR factory and one of my buddies had a rock river AR, he used calipers to check all the measurements. He said they were spot-fucking-on down to .0005 of an inch.

S&W, PSA, and Spike are their three largest customers. They've also made parts for Del-Ton, BCM, Magpul (technically those were S&W), and Double Star. There were more but I can't remember all of them, don't work there anymore. Made some Ruger parts before but they didn't like our QC and dropped us.

I did get to make some of those Spike "Crusader" lowers which were pretty sweet.

I asked my local dealer this same question, he told me M&P

I'm not a "build" fan. I'm a former Marine and while I can appreciate people enjoying the hobby, and using "builds" as a means of discussing that hobby, to me it really comes down to fundamentals of marksmanship. I'd much rather see someone buy a good rifle off the shelf and go learn to shoot it well before they get into the lore of "uppers" and "lowers", like hipsters picking out shoes.

So true a potential burglar won't care if your ar is customized or not a .223 to the chest is still a .223 to the chest regardless of barrel/grip/Reciever etc..
my advice to new gun owners is to get something good out of the box because getting a customized rifle as a begginner is kinda overkill.
>>
>>71932250
Yup, I was one of the top lowers producers when I worked there so there's a good possibility any lowers from those companies were made by yours truly.
QC isn't awful there I wouldn't say; everything that needs to be spot-on usually is.
>>
>>71932288
Like another anon eluded to, a lot of companies source their parts kits and lowers to the same places.
People are dumb and don't even realize it.

M&P is shit but in the end as long as it functions and you're happy with it, who cares.

>Not getting an AK

AR15s are good sports rifles, but those are not made for war.

You can't seriously consider a rifle that needs to cleaned every 1k rounds and where the fouling is blasted directly into the receiver.

Shit man, get an AK.
>>
>>71932595
Save save save.
you will also need a weapons locker which will cost you another 3000-10000 depending on how many rifles you plan to buy.
But i can only tell you that it is definantly worth it.
>>
>>71932729
Modern ARs from good companies are just as reliable as an AK, even when dirty. AKs are also inaccurate as shit.

This, AK platform sucks past 200-300 yards unless it's some sniper platform AK like dragunov

I'd be very afraid of an AR/M4 even out to 500-600 yards. Supposedly Marines are trained to hit accurately at that range with just iron sights on them.

>>71932729
AKs are good, reliable war rifles. But if I had my choice, I'd stick with my AR for the kind of battle you'd have in the US.

If I was clearing buildings or doing urban street fighting, I'd probably prefer an AR. But where I am, most engagements would be 200-300yds, and I wouldn't be clearing any buildings.

Here in the US, you'd be on the move. 5.56 ammo is lighter and more readily available here. And if you're shooting 1000+ rounds without a break to clean your gun, you're likely going to run out of ammo before the state of your rifle's action becomes a problem. Hell, if you're not cleaning your AK after 1000 rounds, you're neglecting your rifle.

My AR weighs just a little over 6lbs unloaded, too. And anyone I shoot with it is out of the fight for good. Dead or alive, they're not a threat. Unless I need to chop through cinder blocks to get at someone, I'll be happy with my AR.

This is true, both rounds can be incredibly accurate when fired out of an AR platform though.

I have heard pretty good things about the maverick. I would spend more if I was going to be shooting it a lot, but if it's for home defense, you're not going to have any reliability issues.

Meaning tax stamped for having under 16inch barrel and suppressor stamped

I have seen people fire them in real life with subsonic rounds and it is more quiet than a .22 rifle. Also with the subsonic rounds, the powder used is very fast burning so you can get efficient bullet velocity from even a 10 in barrel
