A Portuguese policeman, Goncalo Amaral, who worked on the Madeleine McCann case, released a book alleging that the parents lied about the abduction.
He was successfully sued by Kate and Gerry McCann for £395,000 on grounds of libel.

But a GoFundMe page was started for him, and managed to raise £50,000 to pay for his successful appeal against the decision. The McCann's apparently have lots of haters eager to donate to Amaral.
The fund was then shut down, presumably because GoFundMe are SJWs.
Portuguese police closed the case in 2008 because authorities had detected no crime, but British police are still looking into it. Madeleine would turn 13 next month.

Gonçalo Amaral is a crazy dude.
He was in charge of the investigation behind the murder of Joana Cipriano, a little girl who went missing back in 04. After a lengthy investigation, it was concluded that the girl's mother and maternal uncle had murdered her , chopped her up into pieces, dumped her in an old fridge and took it to Spain to get destroyed in a scrapyard. They did so because Joana had caught the other two having sex (remember they were brother and sister).
Anyways, the mother had confessed to the crime, but shortly after she said she was forced to confess and that she was bruised from being beaten by the cops.
The police claim she did that to herself and whatnot, but several of them were convicted, including our guy Gonçalo. He wasn't there during the assault, but he covered up for the other dudes and faked some reports.
But he's been doing fine after the whole McCann thing. He has a segment in some show where he talks about crimes and shit.

In mccann's case, the parents were never even considered by the police here because the british newspapers "influenced" us to not think of the parents as guilty
