I think prostitution should be legal, but also be highly regulated. There is a big problem with prostitutes being forced to work, being abused, having to give most of their money to their pimps who belong to organized crime. Spread of STDs etc.
Street prostitution should be illegal imho, they make entire streets and districts go to shit (sometimes literally), harass people walking along, display their ugly asses to kids, are often high/consume drugs in public...
There will always be prostitution because the demand is too high - so make it legal, but make it regulated.

It'd make it nearly impossible to just find and fuck a hooker i'd imagine. All the standards and shit would go way up. I tried to go to a brothel once in nevada (legal there outside of LV, surprisingly), and I had to spend about a month and a half beforehand getting tests done, had to go in and get fucking interviewed to make sure I wasn't gonna choke out any of the girls, and a bunch of other shit. I ended up just fucking deciding not to. On top of being a couple thousand dollars I had to do a bunch of shit and was being treated like a god damned criminal so I just fucking stopped bothering.

The reason this won't happen is the rest of the service industry does NOT want to have to compete fairly in the market for labor. That said, I don't think it'd be good, because if it's legal, then over time, the public's attitude towards it will go from it being something that crackwhores do for extra money, to something that's as normal as delivering parcels to your doorstep. No. Demand for things like sex and drugs tend to be pretty stable, regardless of legal status. Enormous growth in US prostitution is unlikely upon legalisation...
