It is presidential elections.
The Austrian system is like the French system. There are parliamentary elections and presidential elections. In theory, similar to the French system, the President would lead the country with his own Prime Minister (=Chancellor) in charge at his right hand side, with the parliament debating their proposals and voting on them or even doing their own proposals.
In practice, for historic reasons, the right hand man (the Chancellor) has effectively cut out the President from day to day business, leaving the President to be a "King"-type ceremonial nobody.
But with the two front runners having vowed to change their stance on how they would engage with parliamentary majorities, the President is now a shitload more important.

You don't need a Waffenpass to have/buy a semi auto rifle, you can get a permission for that solely on the grounds of "want home defense".
And not, it's far from perfect. There are lots of random and retarded limitations that need to go. Unlike the Germans you can't have a suppressor or a light on your rifle, both things are very useful for home defense and banning them brings no benefit whatsoever.

You can buy a semi auto shotgun, rifle or handgun with permit, which you get if you say you want the weapon for home defense (and do some paperwork).

My sister works in Vienna and lives with her finance to the South of Vienna. He loves to go hunting. She did the hunting license exam (Jagdschein), then got the Waffenbesitzkarte and now owns two hunting rifles. Took her a year, but only because she was lazy to actually do the paperwork and learn for the Jagdschein.
She could also buy hand guns with that. Her finance wants to buy her a Glock 17, because she also has an apartment in Vienna and times are dangerous.
