This is what happens when you have idiots in the whitehouse who honestly believe that Britain has some magical powers to convince Europe to tow the American line. Europe is gone - it's a lost battle and personally I think it would be best for the Britain world to accept that and re-open ties with United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand instead of waiting on Europeans to get their act together.

Of course we have a special relationship.

The greatest fighter in the history of warfare came from that relationship.

American can do attitude came about when the UK wanted a a plane and 100 days later America was rolling out prototypes. Rumor has it the Mustang was originally conceived on a napkin.

British engineering came into play when the Rolls Royce Merlin engine being added to that airframe to replace the America Allison engine.

This combination of American and British technology created a fighter that was unmatched and helped the Allies in winning WWII.

To throw away or discount that special relationship is asinine.

Both of those are independent clauses, so a semicolon is appropriate.

>>71906811
Semicolons should be used to make two sentences into one.

I think the closest ally shtick is going to wear off pretty soon.

Our populations are becoming more and more distinct. USA is becoming Latino, whilst the UK becomes Muslim.

I think the special relationship was part of the era of pretty much unchallenged globalism and relative confidence in intervention if the Middle East. Both people in the UK and US are fed up with this, and want a new start, and will be suspicious of the old special relationship, knowing that it was founded on globalism for the past few decades.

They didn't technically start the first one, but without them backing up Franz Josef would have never gotten carried away with his insane 7-part ultimatum against russian-backed serbians.

Plus, never forget they teamed up with the mehmets there again AS WELL. Like they did in WW2. And like they are doing now with Merkel.

The truth is that """""""germany"""""" is an even younger country than the US. They were a clusterfuck of baby kingdom who couldnt unite til Bismark literally baited them by force in the 1800s. And barely a century later, they were carved up again because they can't control themselves.

Of course the term itself is tripe. Just "special" makes it sound retarded. But for whatever reason, the language was the stronger glue and helped both cultures bond through the difficult period that was the 2 centuries of ideologies and isms (19th and 20th century). Fighting germans and commies and fascists together for a hundred years tends to bring people together, despite all the old history and bad blood.

I can't say where it will be in a century or so, I hope it remains of course. I'm not a deluded britfag who thinks we're still britannia rule the waves. We need America more than they need us, we're past the point where they even just needed us for international political support since they're now utterly #1 world police. I guess I'm just nostalgic for the sort I shit I remember seeing in my childhood like pic related.

I don't want to see the UK forced to cozy up to the pajeets, out of fucking necessity just because both our politicians are shitting on a good thing.

You essentially have two common occasions in which to use semicolons: to separate two complete sentences (that is, independent clauses) that seem connected enough to function as their own single idea, and to separate lists within lists.

First case: "Americans disagree with Obama's bullshit; Britain is a strong ally."

Second case: "The Americans' favorite foods include burgers, hot dogs, and fried butter; the Canadians' favorite foods include maple syrup, poutine, and bacon; and the Swedes' favorite food is big black dong."

We're cucked, mate. The british public has seen what happened in Greece with the bailouts, in Italy with Renzo, we've seen the Mastriicht treaty crash and be reborn in Lisbon, we know we'll have to give up the pound and trident and even muh nhs, we know the EU will mean the end of the UK as a sovereign nation..but we'll still vote to stay in because the population is emasculated.

The euroreich will rise first, then be highjacked by islam and then the continent will bleed again. This time though nobody will give a fuck because China, India and the US will be the only ones still relevant.

But Europe will rise again, it's just a shame it has to come to that.

Would bet you everything I own Obongo did this in exchange for a promise of a place on the board of a Brit Company or a promise of a load of million dollar plus "speaking fees" if the Brits don't vote out.

Adopting the Euro was unpopular before the Eurozone crisis, it's political suicide now. And the EU likes our nuclear-armed military, so much so that they would like us to 'share' it.

After brexit, it's extremely unlikely that we'll get a free trade agreement with the EU and currently they account for around 40% of our exports, so there absolutely will be an economic hit.

But it's the reality. There is literally no way the EU can function as a centralized power with complete monetary and fiscal union.

It honestly doesn't matter how well we could still do economically with it, as more and more laws are passed in Brussels with EU-wide policies the stronger the need will get for complete standardisation.

Of course, they will NEVER mention during the referendum or run away from it - most likely lie- and might even keep it under the lid for a few years, but you'll see. In ten years time, they will put pressure on us to give up the pound. Trident will go last because there's only us and france that have nukes. But that will be changed too eventually, power will be switched to Brussels as well.

I'm not trying to be downer here, but let's face the facts here : we're unironically debating whether it's better to have some foreigners make our own laws. If we don't give a shit about this, what's a fucking banknote next to it?

Pic related was right along and we did not listen.

>>
>>71914973

That doesn't matter. The EU is more concerned with keeping itself alive than the economies of it's member states. It will try it's best to punish the UK to put other member states off leaving.

And yes, I know Merkel has tried and it was shut down, but the point is that all we're really doing is saying is "no not now honey i have a migraine", but we know sooner or later, it's gonna happen. Besides once we vote to remain, what's the worst we can do? Another meaningless amendment deal "a la cameron" that cant be enforced without being put in treaty or that can be challenged anytime by EU judges?

This referendum boils down to one question - "do you want to be free" - and it's pathetic we're still pondering over it.

Eh? Being in the EU isn't a requirement to be in the common market. EU member states would suffer more than Britain if tariffs were introduced on British trade. >Seems insane that getting into one country will give them the freedom to live in all the others.
We're not inside the Schengen mess, so it's a bit more complicated than that. You need a full EU passport to freely enter EU member states. Even a visa won't cut it.
>>
>>71915857
I hope to god you're right. But right now it seems like it's still doing a good job of fooling everyone on most aspects. Member states sometimes still have the rare lucid moment, but on most aspects they seem to roll with it.

I'm still amazed we're talking about inviting turkey again when it LITERALLY still is occupying a fellow EU member state after 40 years. And at a time when turkish politics are particularly in shambles, to say it midly.

If the UK stays in the EU, they lend credibility to these threats. There is no guarantee that impotent threats today won't be acted upon tomorrow.

I get the impression that Merkel's trying to suck Erdogan's dick to get help with the migrant crisis. Last I checked, introducing a new member state required unanimous agreement from all existing member states, which hopefully is out of the question for Turkey.

Well everyone better hope your predictions are correct none of those millions of refugees decide Britain would be more cosy. What about when Turkey joins? Millions more to come.

The EU federalizing will mean eventually member states will not have their own military - it'll be an EU military. Then they can easily force states to do whatever they want with fines, sanctions and military force. Of course these laws and decisions come from the all powerful, unelected Commission.

Why do you think many states refuse to adequately militarize in Europe? They want to afford their socialism (which they don't really but a proper military would make it worse), and two, those leaders know, by keeping their militaries weak now, they can use that as an argument for a united EU military later.

We're not in Schengen and we still have border controls in or out of the EU, so this makes no difference. Illegals are still illegals.

The other things are just speculation either way. I seriously doubt the EU will be able to agree on any of it before it inevitably falls to pieces.

sure it had a higher top speed and heavier armaments but it had slow acceleration, wasn't built for serious war time mass production and ate through fuel so quick it couldn't be used as an escort (quite the flaw during the late war German oil crisis), so it could only operate on fringe ambush missions, it's slow acceleration at slow speeds eliminating it as an interceptor; whereas the Mustang was a lot more agile at top speed and so more versatile in the dive, had a much longer range and could multi role as ground support if necessary.

The meteor was slower but because it could accelerate quickly at low speeds it could at least operate interceptor roles fairly reliably so I'd say that was probably the better jet of the war, especially in the dogfight against an me262 with it's tight turning.

The jet engine wasn't quite outstripping prop planes until the mid 50's really, I read some interesting tactics used by Typhoon and Tempest pilots for countering jets during CAS missions and something about how Mustang pilots would always tempt me262s into chasing them in the dive, then using their better high speed turning to out-manoeuvre them while the ME262 bled it's energy in a panicked sissor. So it wasn't that revolutionary at the time.
