What now
>>
What about unemployment though? Wages may have stayed the same due to more people being fired.
>>
They probably cut down hours and/or fired people, or hired people in part time.

Yeah, you cannot just raise prices if there's a strong competition, but if you want to keep your profit margin while raising wages, you either need to cut down expenses or raise prices.

Research should look at how businesses cut down expenses in total, not just look at the prices.
>>
>>71905328
I don't know famm but I'd rather be on welfare than work for 7 dollars an hour
>>
It's supposed to be phased in, from my understanding. As it gets higher more and more small businesses will shut down. Those who owned such businesses will take jobs as janitors because fuck hard work if we're all """""equal""""".

Unskilled and uneducated people will begin to starve and libturds will try to push for the guaranteed minimum income. When this happens everyone will stop working, Seattle will collapse, the white liberals will find other cities to infest and the minorities will turn it into another Detroit
>>
>>71905218
Businesses can probably offset the cost of one state raising the minimum wage to 15. how are the small businesses doing and like the last anon said how have unemployement rates fared, that's what you should be looking at with something like this not if Wal-Mart's charging and extra 30 cents for that 100 foot hose.
>>
>>71905218
>What now

Step one: Ignore evidence.
Step two: Muh trickle down economy!!!
>>
>>71905218
conservatives will do anything, any physical act or mental gymnastics to maintain their narrative, just as liberals will
>>
>>71905494
Welfare doesn't give you opportunities to increase your income like having a job does unless you're willing to have kids for a little more gibs me dat.

Slippery slope. Minimum wage doesn't mean full blown socialism

>After a year, a minimum wage increase set to take effect over a number of years has not had time enough to reach full impact.

>MORE ON NEWS AT 11!
>>
>>71905684
This too. It'll take the full amount + more time to really see the effects
>>
>>71905675
Working as a waiter or janitor doesn't either, the difference is that if you're on welfare you at least have the free time to develop your own shit
>>
>>71905607
> Trickledown economics
I don't think any serious economist has ever proposed this as a theory. It's a slur.

You're supposed to obtains skills while you're young working for low wages and gradually increase the value of your labour as your gain experience.

That's how you're supposed to make it.
>>
>>71905218
They literally have less people working for one. Also the main thing, they are employing people right outside the city limits so they don't have to pay for the new minimum wage, many business are doing this.

Also nice flag.
>>
>>71905218
That's because they fired a bunch of people.
>>
>>71905812
Ever heard of promotions, there was that one story of the janitor who worked his way to a college degree while working in the school? There's almost always room to grow if you show the initiative, and if there isn't where you're working then move somewhere there is. Working at least shows other employers you have value as opposed to welfare which shows you to be a leech.
>>
>>71905670
Because they've cut costs in other areas. Businesses are going to do whatever it takes before they raise prices.

> Says nothing about the effect on employment.

This is what the real argument is and always has been.

You cannot get welfare unless you are a single mother or a nigger family

Single childless people do not receive welfare in America (unfortunately lol)

is that a blog specifically for portland?
>>
>>71905218
Knowing liberals they'll just claim you need MORE cities to introduce minimum wage laws.
>>
>>71906033
But why didn't prices increase?
>>
>>71907587
that's always the last ditch effort to cover costs
>>
>>71907587

because every cunt got fired so they didnt need to charge more to support more employees.
>>
>>71907587

sticky prices
l2economy leafbro
>>
>>71905218
Guess what, they're probably working people's asses off or else hiring under the table. Even with a $9 min wage, there's people in my area (Sno Valley) taking $8/hr or sometimes less in cash
>>
>>71907587
because if you increase prices you lose business, but if you just fire your less productive workers you can pay the fewer remaining workers more assuming they cover the workload of the people you fired.

It's much safer for a business to fire people than to raise prices.
>>
>>71905218

>What now

Name something produced in Seattle.

Yeah I thought so.
>>
>>71907587

Because none of the items or products sold in Seattle are produced in Seattle. That means unemployment goes up to compensate for the difference in cost while the cost of goods do not rise. Go take a fucking Economics class.

isn't seattle hipster central

not everywhere in the country is full of trustfund berniefags who buy 10 dollar coffees..

>>
>>71909038
Shit, even this cunt gets it. Seattle is a bubble anyway, like LA or Sedona, Arizona.
>>
>>71905218
If they haven't raised prices, then they face possible deflationary stagnation which results in hyperinflation.
>>
>>71905677
>slippery slope
You say that like it invalidates any argument. I remember when people were talking about same-sex marriage and people were saying that next men would be allowed in women's bathrooms. The opponents of course also cried "slippery slope" and that it would never happen. Looking at it now, this slope seems very slippery to me.
>>
>>71907587
>But why didn't prices increase?

Where did this meme come from? The main effect of a higher minimum wage is a rise in unemployment.

>>71909038

Over a longer period the reduced supply causes an increase in prices but that's a secondary effect.
>>
Why are libkikes so anti science?

Even Paul Krugman used to say that raising the minimum wage is a bad idea before he turned into a political pundit from a scientist

Note how in the state it didn't move much, and in the country it went down, but in Seattle it went up. Curious, isn't it?

It's a mathematical certainty that as you raise min wage that one or more of the following happens.

Prices of goods increase
Unemployment goes up
Perm jobs are replaced by part time jobs
Automation replaces humans where possible

It's simply not possible for businesses operating on profit margins of a few percent to take a hit to their expenses on wages, it's not ideology it's just maths and economics
