It's not "retardation" though, the current concept of neo-liberalism isn't even being liberal. It's a radical global-socialism, also being propped up by "anarchists" and mainstream counter-culturalists/contrarians.
People like Bernie Sanders are enabling the views of these people by continuing the myth of the "Trump supporter".
An ideal liberal would say "I don't agree with Trump but I respect his right to say it" but the current "liberal" would say "Trump doesn't agree with me therefore he is evil".
In reality the current "liberal" agenda isn't based on morality at all, it's contrarian rubber banding that is snaps off in different directions in attempt to foster "change". You see it all throughout history, even over the last few decades. You have periods of back and forth between the established agendas.
In this case it's "conservatives" and "liberals" but Trump doesn't represent either of these in many voters minds, he represents either: a) a joke or b) not part of any established government position.
Bernie on the other hand reps the extreme "liberal" view and has been part of government for many years. He is so intertwined with the system and is just like everyone else.
