Danger of thinking they're pets.
There are some that successfully suppress the wild animal instincts, but they take in the animals as newborn and spend all their time with them. And they're still in danger, even if the animal never snaps, just because they're huge predators.
One big cat worker got his leg snapped because the tiger turned around and bumped into his leg at an awkward angle. That's half a ton of mass just spinning around and hitting you.
Interestingly most of these zoo workers that get killed seem to be women. A size question? An inability to intimidate the animal? Do they start screaming and trigger a prey instinct?
