He helped Russia survive Germany and his investment into heavy industry helped them modernize and, at times, surpass the world in military technology- so much so that they beat the Americans into space and out-paced the US in the Nuclear arms race. Of course a lot of that work is thanks to Kraut scientists, but Stalin won the war so to the victor goes the spoils. Plus, he killed like 19 million plus ruskies which is an A+ in my book.

He wanted to turn Iran into a superpower. He wanted to build up the military so that it wouldn't be beholden to America or Britain but was smart enough to realize that it needed their assistance. He wanted to liberate Iran from the religious extremists that now plague that once great civilization. It's kind of ironic that it was the leftists in Iran that objected to the "degeneracy", they felt that it was a way for the west to hypnotize Iranians into forgetting about their culture.
