One of my coworkers had a son that was getting into the wrong crowd at his public school so his wife quit her job for a year so she could homeschool. After that year he was allowed to go back to public school but with the understanding that if he screwed up, it was back into homeschool. She also started homeschooling their twins who were just reaching school age after discovering how much better the results were with the troubled son. But yes, the "Jesus rode a dinosaur" homeschoolers do exist but they're not the entire community.

I've experienced public schooling, private school, and homeschooling, and homeschooling is definitely the best route to go. I still got plenty of social interaction and not having so many distractions helped massively. When you're doing the work, you're concentrating on the work, not how to impress Jessica McHotty. Then after school's done, you get out and have a regular social life. It might be harder if you live in the middle of nowhere though. Since you're more independent, you're learning discipline and self-motivation, and you'll naturally be more outgoing because you're learning to be an initiator, unless you have retard parents that are trying to shelter you. If you look at what's coming out of the government schools, they're all nervous and anti-social. They're not better-equipped to deal with people.
