In reality, Texas is middle of the pack in terms of IQ and education in the United States. They're also not particularly religious according to most studies, I believe they rank in at the 35th most religious state. They are however massively superior economically compared to other states, with their GDP rivaling many European countries. They also have some of the best infrastructure in terms of roads and transportation, and they provide reasonable housing prices as well as a high standard of living. Personally, the people I know that think poorly of Texas have never been there and believe a lot of very stupid stereotypes.

I spent a year in Europe while in college. A nice place, met many people and still have some friends that I visit semi-anally. I loved it and still enjoy seeing the UK and the rest of the EU. Great people, food, etc. Attending university in Lancaster was rewarding....frankly an honor. I have nothing but respect for European culture and history.
I have a nice little hunting cabin in the woods on 10 acres that I paid cash for last year. Today, I played with one of my registered full auto M16s. I have a '67 GTO in my garage on a brand new lift. My daughter is privately schooled. I have 0 debt.
Frankly, my European friends live like serfs. I love them and it kills me to see them live the way they do. They spend all their money on living expenses and are always living paycheck to paycheck. Sure, we have people live like that in the US...but these guys are mechanical engineers and very good ones. They live in small flats and scurry about like rats in a race. Having an abundance is not in the cards for them, there simply is not enough room, freedom, competition and resources to pass around.
Imperial Europe was amazing and yes, was generally a parasite on the world. That said...they built the modern world. After 1945, the USA changed the world. I don't know how long you've been in Texas or if you've visited other states, but our infrastructure is actually really based. We have state laws that protect the gov't (and taxpayers) from shit contractors, so they usually get the work done right and on time. The worst roads are usually municipal roads that are cheap and cheaply maintained because the city gov't doesn't have the foresight to properly budget. That's not a failure at the state level.
