You told me his economic ideas are stupid, yet the kind and intelligent people at /v/ explained how it all fits together.

Seems like a good system, most people have a very small increase in tax and a very large increase in social security, while the 1% pays a lot more tax, which they can easily afford.

Why is USA so socialistphobic?
>>
>>71828083

Exactly. The elite are the foundation of civilization. 99% of the population is simply too stupid to do anything but sell their labor power to the elite, who can put it to use and create value. Society needs to place the concerns of the elite first and foremost, because there won't be a society at all without them.

The workforce is as essential as the investors. There are just less investors.

If you want to talk about the moral implications of it, name one thing a billionaire has done that was vast contribution to society. Who invented the transistor, the Internet, rockets, steam engines, penicillin and planes? Not billionaires. The only rare few are like Gates or Nobel who had to business sense and opportunity to capitalise on their inventions.

It is people who make more than 75k that will feel a slight increase, and a bigger one the more wage grows.
>>
>>71829879
The elite isn't only the billionaires. It also includes the intellectual elite who are capable of making scientific discoveries. As automation increases, 99% of people will be incapable of producing economic value or even selling labor power. They'll simply be too dumb to be worth anything.
>>
>>71829879
Dude you are a retard, there is no taxable income if they flee. They can simply hold their assets in the market, and go to a tax haven that will welcome them. Or they could liquidate all their holdings before the new tax law is implemented. Or the companies in the US could invest in assets to use in business until their taxable income becomes 0

Hey, I don't like a big state, taxes or social benefits. If I was in charge, we'd have a small state and no benefits, so if you are poor you are forced to either work or die of hunger.
However, taxing people to provide benefits is beneficial overall, for the whole. It isnt for me or you, since we apparently rather spent on health BEFORE we need medical attention, but its good for everyone else.

Nah, in a welfare state people arent allowed to die.

That's true. However there are plenty of less kooky examples of government waste to illustrate how you shouldn't want to pay more taxes, such as endless money funnelled into dem programs.

Here in Canada, our great leader just pledged $8.4B to pander to natives.

>The Liberal government of Justin Trudeau unveiled a federal budget Tuesday containing $8.4 billion worth of spending commitments to Indigenous communities across the country along with a pledge to undertake substantial on-reserve education reform and begin negotiations to establish a new fiscal relationship with First Nations.

The federal budget contained commitments to spend $4.2 billion on education, children and training, $1.2 billion on social infrastructure and $2.42 billion for green infrastructure over the next five years for First Nation, Inuit, Metis and Nothern communities.
>>
>>71831407
If you had a state with no benefits, in the near future, the people who refuse to get a job will just move to the state next door, and live with benefits there.
The big problem of the welfare state is that people who haven't contributed to the wallet can move in and start sucking from it.

Basically if you want a welfare state, you best close the borders; if you want a work4food state, you will see your own lazy people moving away and your neighbor's best people move in, as they can work with less tax here.
Thus a no-welfare state will force states around it to also drop welfare, or they will go bankrupt as their businesses and best workers move away to a place that doesn't tax them, while lazy parasites move in.

Your family is a successful implementation of communism - from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs; dad making the most money, yet spending the least, people sharing kitchen ware and housing space, kids getting a ton of resources spent on them even though they produce nothing, no money being exchanged when giving each other favors and services, etc.

Thing is it couldn't even be implemented on a state-wide scale, let alone made work.
Even at its peak the USSR still had private property, currency and a government.
>>
>>71830886

I don't have a problem with the wealth redistribution or safety net factor of it, because it's negligible. The problem is the government monopolization of healthcare and suffocation of the market.

We can see the effects very well in our own country - widespread corruption, widespread shortages, yet the funding of the "too big to fail" government healthcare institution only grows and grows.

We don't have a shortage of smartphones, new cars, brand-name clothes, malls and high-speed internet, but shortage of ambulances and medical specialists is a nationwide problem. Only a government monopoly can create these conditions.

It has also created a massive rift in the quality of service available to the people who have to stick to public healthcare because a big chunk of their income is locked there, and the people (top 10%) rich enough to write all that money off and go private. Same thing in education.
>>
>>71830073

Read the thread, I don't support a welfare state and I am opposed to social benefits.
I think I should pay no tax, and instead buy a ticket to use the road for a month, pay for medicine when I need it, have all public projects work like a Kickstarter, so I can only help fund it if I think its a good idea.
Fuck it, that way I may actually end up spending more on the state, but at least I will be spending it on things I know I want. I'd gladly go over 10% for a project to fix the holes in the road in my neighborhood or to tune up the park nearby.

We're talking about the economic elite. Nobel prize winners don't get taxed at 40% when they win a Nobel prize.

If that sort of automation arrives the economy would collapse because 99% unemployment means no one to buy anything.
>>71830238
Yes, there is. If I invest in an American company and derive profits from it, I'm taxed by the US government. You didn't think you stopped paying taxes because you invest overseas, did you?

Businesses already use tax havens. Look it up, tax rate starts dropping for the exceptionally wealthy - top few percent kind. Despite progressive taxation.

Deriving profits from stocks counts as captial gains and is subject to captial gains tax. They could invest all their money to avoid taxes forever but they'd never see their money again unless they sell the stocks, which are then taxed.

Exactly no trades= no profit and sandberg is purposing 30% transaction tax. Meaning the smart thing to do is hold all stocks or off load quickly.
