serbia and macedonia definitely have a closer bond in most aspects than bulgaria and macedonia do. skopje at times has been called a "smaller belgrade". there are infinitely more television channels, songs, tv shows, celebrities, brands, directly broadcast into macedonia than from bulgaria. it has always been like this i think, so macedonians simply feel more "closer" to serbians than with bulgarians. macedonia and bulgaria actually have little to do with each other these days, other than when hillbillies from here and desperate to get into the EU and flee to bulgaria for passports. there is simply more comradery between mkd and srb, however that isn't to say the average macedonian feels any general negativity toward bulgaria or bulgarians, other than when you hear of bulgaria siding with greece on issues that should really be dust in the wind by now.

But it's true, athens experienced a huge growth very fast, so there's not much order in the city. But Athens has a lot of historical sites and i think that makes up for it. Overall, I'd say most people feel as victims of living through the circumstances that caused the crisis. Dealing with corrupt politicians, balancing out a very polarised electoral body (look up the Greek Civil War and the Military Junta) and having to effectively adhere to ultimatums by the EU.

Compared to Mykonos, Santorini and other mainstream islands, it's not as overpopulated or expensive. It's really calm and there's a lot to see there. Italians left good architecture and history there also.

I think Turkey's problems have a lot to do with how the situation is in the more eastern parts. What people in the west perceive as Turks are often Kurds, and then you have the more extreme Muslims. But as far as I know people living in eastern Thrace and coastal areas are pretty dandy.
One thing that could really benefit Turkey would be detaching the non-coastal areas and giving Kurds their own land so that they can just destroy themselves. Branching a new Turkish Republic off the current two-speed Turkey could be amazing for so many reason. I could see a western/coastal Turkey being a very good ally to Greece and receiving a lot of special treatment from big powers like the US, EU and Russia. Kind of like Israel, it has a key position and could prove to be an excellent ally for the West.
