I think to earn a free education you should be deserving of it--someone who is intelligent, will be productive to the surrounding community, and who will produce something of value (whether service, discovery, invention, etc.)

An educated populace directly benefits me. Poorly educated people are less productive, commit more crimes and decrease land values. It benefits me when the people I live around receive educations. I already pay assloads in taxes. I would be fine with giving less of them to soldiers and more of them to students.

When will people start realizing that instead of giving everyone a college education we should not require 4 year undergraduate studies for jobs anymore. In 15 years kids will need a masters degree to get a starting job unless education is reformed.
