Think about it. Their entire existence revolves around begging you for food. Even when they're not hungry they will be pawing at your ankle pestering you for something to eat. They shit all over your backyard, then come back to you with liquid feces running down its leg. They can't clean themselves, can't feed themselves (without a pack, i.e. nigger tier hunting) and overall rely on humans too much.
Compare this to our feline friend. He's for all intents and purposes a self-sufficient animal. The reason they hang around humans is the same reason we humans hang around the coastline and rivers. It's just an easier way to get food. If they were forced to, they could very easily look after themselves as they are highly skilled hunters.
But most importantly, we had to domesticate dogs, whereas cats domesticated themselves. This makes cats on a more equal footing to humans and thus the superior human companion.
Depends on the breed of dog. Anything mixed is doomed from the start.

I got a cat around the same time. She was great. She used her litter box and didn't moan for food like a hobo. She was loving and playful and we loved having her around. She just gave a huge litter of kittens that I'm dealing with currently. Been 5 weeks now.
Unfortunately my cat was supposed to be outside. When she hadher kittens we had to keep her inside and she wwasn't use to how that works. The dumb bitch would sleep in the hallways. My wife was running down the hall and accidentally punterd cat.
Later that day my cat fell asleep directly in the way to my room door and I accidentally stepped on her pretty had. I thought she was fine but apparently not. She's not eating anything. She poops blood. She's low energy. Pretty sure she will die tomorrow.
