Your shitty analogy would probably make more sense if it was possible to ban all firearms, but it's really not that simple. UK has banned handguns and you can still acquire one very easily in all major coastal cities for 500-1000£. Australia banned a lot of firearms, but quite a few folks have been busted since for mass importation of firearms into the country not to mention the people who started manufacturing them on their own. Heard homemade machine pistols go to biker gangs for a couple of grand a pop.
This is why the citizens need to have a way of gaining firearms legally. If you don't, you drive the whole thing underground and people will acquire the firearms they want illegally.
