Are videogames the most degenerate hobby in modern times? Don't get me wrong..I grew up most of my life playing videogames..recently stopped and now it feels like I am starting life over from scratch. Its so strange..it has felt like I've awoken and call me pretentious or smug..but I can't think of how I managed to waste so much of my life playing games
0 zero skills are learned from video games. Other hobbies carry a lot of cross over skills into the real world, video games carry over virtually zero. (inb4 muh reflex or muh wow raids and teamwork). You might go ahead and say..but anon video games are a form of entertainment, not a hobby. Sure, thats a fair point, but video games are literally the most degenerate form of entertainment. Look at reading for example, thats a form of entertainment, but reading expands the mind and exposes you to new perspectives, gaming does not. Video games have the absolute lowest barrier of entry, hence why gaming is such a big "hobby" among actual autists and children. Men who play video games are consumed by them. They care little about the real world, the issues around them, the future, investing money. They are mindless consumers. The gaming industry finally realised this in 2007, and ever since, realised it can get away with anything knowing that it panders to the lowest common denominator. In what other industry is it okay to mass ship broken products? Companies can literally strap "gamer" on to peripherals and sell them in droves knowing that these fucking morons will buy them.

I don't play videogames as a hobby anymore, I play them when I have free time and nothing to do, since I'm an adult, however, I'm glad because they have improved some of my mental and physical skills.

It's part of getting older. It's amazing how my interest in video games dropped like a fucking stone when I got older when I thought my interest would never wane as a kid.
Video games are entertainment and don't lead to much productive skill outside of said hobby. But like you said, it's entertainment. It is indeed degenerate to have your entire life revolve around vidya for this reason but it's fine to just a bit of vidya.
As an adult video games are less appealing, it's not as important that they provide a ton of entertainment for a very low cost, and the inability to drop a multiplayer game and do something important becomes a dealbreaker for a ton of games. Almost all adults end up playing less of them, it's just part of growing up.
Frankly though I'm still a slacker but I spend my time online and discussing. I've went from a below average to an above average writer, and I stay informed about world events, but that's about all I've gotten out of it.
