End Federal student loans program. No money to borrow means no debt. Tuition will also fall as demand decreases.

But then again that would require basic logic and reasoning skills--both seem to have eluded Maple Syrup Shack Sanders.

But because of the mysterious ways of the fractional reserve Jew, what the students are borrowing doesn't really exist until it's instantly created out of nothing at the moment the promissory note is filed at the bank. It's not like there was any money in the bank already waiting to be loaned out. It's a complete scam designed to entrap young people into a form of slavery, and it should be illegal.

College tends to teach for exams like grade school, so why not just skip college and study on your own? I mean there are plenty of fucking resources available online to help you study and learn things. Then you can take the GRE and apply to grad schools. Why shill out so much money when the basic principles that govern the world are available to most people with internet for free?

You're fucked from the beginning. This isn't 1970 anymore where a college degree wasn't needed for most shit. For fuck's sake my dad is a landscape designer and he didn't go to college. You legally need a degree to do his job but since he had been doing it for so long he was grandfathered into it.

>>71801607
It's like trying to get credit. You're practically forced to use a credit card just so you can build up your credit. Even though people know credit cards are predatory you simply don't have a fucking choice.

It's either you "agree" to the shit terms or spend your life workin' min wage and barely affording to do anything. Or you agree to it, get a job, and then still can't afford anything because of the shitty fucking loans.

Sanders is a fucking idiot and going about this thing the wrong way.

But you're fucking delusional if you see no problem with the current system.

Not really when the education consists of being taught to take exams. In a class of 300+ students how often is a professor going to have the time, between their research and 2-3 other classes, to fully discuss ideas without having to skip information that is required by the school curriculum? What is the reward of learning information that you could have learned just by going through a textbook that would cost you a fraction of the money?

Also making the solution to something costing too much reduced to just having the government pay for it seems stupid when you could identify why it costs so much and do something about it.

Passing on an inflated cost to the tax payers isn't a solution at all.

$60k isn't that much when you are paying $2500 a month in rent in a shit neighborhood. Not even counting car payments, utilities, and other costs of living. How much does your health insurance cost? Even if you have cheaper rent normally health insurance is around $400-500 a month.

So you're $12k in taxes and out $30k just on rent. Then an auto $500-800 a month goes out just for student loans if you want to pay them back as fast as possible so you're out another $8k. Grats, you now have $10k for the rest of the year to pay for your car, food, utilities, gas, and anything else. The car and insurance alone will take out half of that and we can be lenient and say the utilities are included in your rent(even internet).

Also, hope you don't have anything bad happen like a death in the family or get into a car accident or need to see the doctors.

>then move

Because young people can't remember the prices being lower. They either weren't born back then, or they were too young to give a shit. It's the same reason that rewriting history gradually works. If you teach a different version of it in school, those who were old enough to be there will hardly notice and those who get taught the new version can't know any better.

this has nothing to do with socialism, common /pol/ were supposed to be experts in these matters, this is just a matter of pure insanity. 'Hey I bought a product (education) and not I dont want to pay the bill' if you didnt want to pay you could shop around for a cheaper option. Socialism doesn't eliminate the cost of products, even in full blown communism people still had to pay for expensive shit.

People have just become brain dead and entitled, you can easily work nights and pay off an average non-profit collage degree if your totally broke. In fact people who work during collage know why they are at collage and end up more successful.

I have a job and I don't have a degree, there are people who have degrees and do the same thing I do, so what does that tell you about some jobs? Some places might emphasize on degrees, but in reality certifications are often just as good if not better than many degrees. It depends on what you're going for though, and most degrees are simply designed to take your money these days which leads our generation down dead ends.

traditionally collage was never about getting a job, it was to educate the rich kids to become more cultured.

Getting a job is the role of polytechnics and trade schools. Science fucked up this relationship though, so getting a 'culture' degree is perfect if your from a good family, otherwise your degree should be in the form of filling a slave position (science).

there are objectively shortages of millions of skilled tradespeople in the US right now, that gets bigger every year as more boomers retire and no ones there to replace them

>'Hey I bought a product (education) and not I dont want to pay the bill' if you didnt want to pay you could shop around for a cheaper option

This is what you people are failing to understand. If you don't want to be working for $7.50 your entire life(which is near impossible to live on) you need to get an education. Again, degrees are legally required for a lot of job positions and to get jobs where you aren't living in poverty.

So it's a system that EVERYONE is practically forced into and for that reason they are being taken advantage of.

You idiots think the only solution people talk about is "socialism! have that $60,000 paid for by someone else!" Which isn't the case. Schools are taking advantage of the public by jacking up prices and loan companies are putting in ridiculous interest rates on student loans that are protected under special laws so it's impossible to get rid of them.

There's clearly an issue with the current system. You can't live in the world today without a college degree and because of that schools are fucking getting away with theft. There are more solutions other than "socialism".

In germany we tried pay for cost tuitions a few years ago, basically we tried to self finance our universities, the total tuition per student per semester came to about 800-1000 bucks.

The system was later abolished because "education must be free blah blah", but the point is, you can run universities without raising taxes and without asking for a liver and half a lung per semester.

>inb4 but muh universities are better they must use more money
a) they aren't, and b) even if they were 10 times better, it wouldn't warrant an increase in cost by a factor of 100
>>
I have no alternative but to assume that those hooping and hollering about exorbitant costs for tuition and predatory student loans are ignorant of their options regarding financial aid, are too lazy to pursue those options, or do not qualify because of poor academic performance.

The federal pell grant will take care of nearly all costs for an in-state school if you meet the financial need requirements, which aren't that stringent. The only folks that miss out on this are those living with their parents, who are unwilling to provide any financial assistance while making a good combined income. Sucks for them, really.

That's just one federal financial aid program; the states themselves have myriad options. Fuck, even GEORGIA provided me with completely paid-for tuition, only contingent upon achieving a 3.0 or higher GPA in high school.

Besides all that, there are tons of federal student loans with oodles of deferred payment options, subsidized internet payment, etc.

The only two ways I see people racking up 50k on an undergraduate like I see commonly "cited" is attending an expensive, out-of-state school (or private school) without any considerable financial aid, or accruing shit-tons of student loans and spending the shekels on consumable/luxury items. Or a combination of both.

I live in a city in the US, and pay $420/month. And it's not in a bad part of town.

But here's the thing: it doesn't matter what people can say or prove, you've already made up your mind that everyone's fucked, which is why you are failing. You can't accept that the paradigm has changed, and that you need to adapt. Since I have turned 18 (~12 years ago), I have moved from Kansas, to Nebraska, to West Virgina, to Maryland, back to Kansas, down to Texas, and am finally living in Montana, because I applied for jobs and researched the cost of living. My first job was at KFC, followed by Wal mart, followed by a Printing Press, and then I became an Electrician apprentice. Once I got my journeyman's, I started moving for better jobs (taking into consideration the cost of living).

I'm making over 92k gross in a town where the rent is between 350-700/month, all without ever setting foot into any college.

You, on the other hand, keep trying the same shit in the same place (or same types of places), and bitching that nothing is changing.

>The U.S.Census Bureau reported in September 2014 that: U.S. real (inflation adjusted) median household income was $51,939 in 2013 versus $51,759 in 2012, statistically unchanged. In 2013, real median household income was 8.0 percent lower than in 2007, the year before the latest recession

But no, let's keep posting our anecdotal experiences. Cus that's how arguments work right? "I'm fine, therefore, everyone else is."

do you not get the concept where people shouldn't be forced into positions they don't want to? Maybe someone want's to work in law or medicine or teaching. Some of these careers don't pay a lot but the person might find them rewarding. Maybe they suck at writing but great at math.

You realize not everyone is proficient in the exact same type of work as you are right? Not EVERYONE has the drive or ability to work as an electrician.

You can't get over the fact people are different than you. Everyone has different experiences and are good at different things. Not everyone can just go "Hey, I guess I'll be an electrician cus it's an available position."
>>
>>71808711
>You're talking about one sector of the entire fucking world and then get butthurt that not everyone wants to do what you do.

I'm not the one that's butthurt. You are. You're claiming that there are no good paying jobs left, and I'm refuting you.

Here's my next search (plumbers):
http://www.bls.gov/ooh/Construction-and-Extraction/Plumbers-pipefitters-and-steamfitters.htm
Job is predicted to grow by 12 percent over 10 years, and pay is about 50,600/yr

Here's HVAC:
http://www.bls.gov/ooh/Installation-Maintenance-and-Repair/Heating-air-conditioning-and-refrigeration-mechanics-and-installers.htm
Growing by 14 percent by 2024. Pay is 45k.

Electricans:
http://www.bls.gov/ooh/construction-and-extraction/electricians.htm
Pay is about 50k. Job growth: 14% by 2024.

Here's welding:
http://www.bls.gov/ooh/production/welders-cutters-solderers-and-brazers.htm
Pay is about 40k. Job growth is lower at 4% by 2024.

Carpenters are 42k
Construction and building inspectors are 60k
Construction equipment operators are 60k
Drywall is 40k
Insulation workers are 40k
Painters are 36k
Roofers are 36k
Solar installers are 37k.

Plenty of jobs out there that are above minimum wage, and require no college education.

That's great. Maybe someone doesn't want to work at all.

The world doesn't conform to you. You give the world what it wants. If you want to do something that the world has no interest in paying you in, then you are shit out of luck. Now, if you want to complain about that, fine, but don't expect anyone to have any pity for you.

Blue collar jobs aren't even bad.
Often times less stressful than most white collar ones.
>>
>>71810245
Oh, believe me, I know. I work 8 hours, and drive 2.2 miles home. It's also proven that people working blue collar jobs feel a greater sense of accomplishment about their lives. They see the results of their work, and feel a sense of accomplishment.

But a lot of people just want to sit in an air conditioned office. There's nothing inherently wrong with either blue collar or white collar. But if you're like>>71809140
where you think that you shouldn't do any market research, and a job should just materialize for you because that's the job that you want, then you're a damned fool.

I'd love to be a blacksmith that makes swords. Not a huge market for them, though.

People need to take responsibility, but at the same time bankruptcy laws need to be changed so banks take responsibility of who they give loans to. Why would a bank give a loan they do more have faith will be paid back
>>
>>71809239
>The world doesn't conform to you. You give the world what it wants

Congrats, you support bernie sanders and his socialism.

Please check in for you newly appointed career.
>>
>>71810526
Problem with that is that in order to get more people approved for loans, the government guaranteed them.

This is why you can't declare bankruptcy on college loans (you used to be able to). It's also why the price of college has skyrocketed high enough to where Bernie wants to make it free.

The solution from the left is ALWAYS more government. Doesn't matter that a few decades ago, you could work a part time job while going to college full time, and graduate with under 5k of debt (which isn't bad, even with a $3.35/hr minimum wage).
>>
>>71801423
Education should be free and he's right. How much talent and innovation is held back due to economic barriers like debt?
>>
>>71810669
>Congrats, you support bernie sanders and his socialism.

>Please check in for you newly appointed career.

You are genuinely one of the most stupid people I've ever met.
>>
>>71810669
Except that I don't, fuck face. Success is nothing more than finding a need, and fulfilling it.

This "follow your heart and the money will follow," is horse shit, and making college free won't do anything to make the job you want materialize.
>>
>>71810767
How much talent and innovation is held back due to comfort, laziness, and taxation?
>>
>>71810817
None? Those who will want to pursue an education will and those who want to laze about should be able too?
>>
time to get rewarded for studying gender studies
>>
>>71810926
Taxation stifles innovation. This is self evident by comparing capitalism to communism or socialism.

Comfort/laziness has nothing to do with education. You can be comfortable making 15/hr, and never strive for more, because you're comfortable where you are.

What pushes innovation is a need, a desire to be better than you are now. And education is no guarantee to that.

Furthermore, what Bernie is proposing isn't free, unless the teachers are willing to work for free, the buildings are going to be built for free (both labor and materials), and the electricity, water, internet, and food are going to be supplied for free. And if you can find people willing to work for nothing, and donate products and services for nothing, then by all means, do so. But you don't need a politician to facilitate that.

Otherwise, you're not talking about "free." You're talking about taking resources from others, regardless of their consent, and you can't even justify it as a universal good.

I'm some third shift cunt that's been lurking a bit in this thread watching people look like fucking jackasses trying to refute you.

I'm certainly no economist, but as someone that has used multiple forms of financial aid (and still using some to finish up my undergrad), I can speak with some small authority on the practical matters of obtaining financial aid to pay for university.

I mean, fuck, I've just got babby's first student loan as buffer shekels in case of emergency, the funds are intact and only at 2,500. I'm STILL sitting here with a puckered butthole about the very inkling of being in debt AT ALL.

Again, I've no fucking clue how anyone could claim that the availability of financial assistance for post-secondary studies is severely lacking in the US unless they're lazy, ignorant, or feel as though "the college experience" (spending bokou bucks on consumable items and luxury goods) should be paid for by the state.

I'm gonna take it that you approve of my argument then.

Glad to see that there are anon's in /pol/ with their heads on straight.

Good on you, anon. I hope that your degree choice was wise, and that you will be paid well upon graduation.
>>
>>71806135
>>71806624
You make a lot of assumptions in your shit arguments. Brother is 20 years old and probably better off than you with no debt. Mother manages a restaurant she started off as a line cook in. Father runs his own business he started when he was 18. Neither of my parents afforded me any advantages other than giving me a place to live and food to eat until the age of 17. And I guess that inner city school I attended that was majority black just pushed my success, huh? You're attitude shows that you are either a shitty troll or a libcucks that is dying in poverty from their dumbass life choices. But hey, at least you got the opportunity to bitch about your college debt on a Chinese underwater origami board.

>>71812043
I'm sure plenty of folks would tell me that it isn't. They may be correct!

I'm close to completion of my B.S. in Psychology. Damn near to a butt-paper degree, although not as abysmally worthless as a B.A..

Graduate school is obligatory, with my end-goal being a master's degree in Licensed Clinical Social Work, with intention of working in private practice.

We'll see how that pans out. Honestly, I'm hoping that I'll be able to schmooze and network more next semester and secure a pathway to some sort of bullshit HR position for some financial security while attending grad school. I'm luckily blessed with an affable demeanour and am able to easily present myself as intelligent, competent, and sociable.

I'm working while in school at the moment, but my job ain't at all something that I would be satisfied with doing for too much longer. I ain't suffering, but I ain't happy.

But yes, you've made very good points. Of course, I don't know if I would agree with your overall philosophy or solutions to these issues, but I at least agree with your refutation of others' arguments posted here.

Mostly when discussing this I just can't pick my jaw up off the floor when seeing that 50k+ debt figure.

It's like you gotta be TRYING to fuck your shit up to do that, you know?
>>
>>71807581
I geniuenly do not believe this anon
>>
>>71812589
>with intention of working in private practice.

I take issue with this. It's like saying that if you were a programming, you would have no intention of ever working for MS or Google.

You go where the money is. Maybe that's the public sector, maybe it's private.

But when the Median wage (46k) for your profession requires a Masters plus 2 years supervised clinical experience, you can't afford to be picky.

To be honest, that's a LOT of education for what you can expect to be paid. I hope you're happy with your job, because you're gambling nearly a decade of your life on it.

But it's your life. I most certainly wouldn't tell you how to live it.
>>
>>71801607

education costs IS a racket

doesn't mean throwing taxpayer dollars at is is the solution
>>
>>71812834
I'm not so very concerned with a high volume of cash-flow. If I was, I would be taking a much different path!

Mainly I am adverse to the idea of working around stringent government regulations and protocol. I wish for the freedom from those things, and the ability to perform therapies as I see fit.

Naturally, this isn't exactly going to happen in private practice either, unless I start my own business. I'm not so connected to familial money or anything, so that is doubtful.

And you're absolutely right. I'll not have the luxury of being able to be picky.

Thanks for the thoughts, bud. Good luck to both of us. Although I reckon that I could use a hefty dose of it a bit more than you, heh.

>>71808328
You can make more being a truck driver. 80k a year is a normal rate for those that only drive in state and go home at night. If you go on the road for months at a time you make over 6 figures easily. But that's just a life of meth and hookers.
