I allege that people gain in convenience in life through being on good terms with those acquainted with them and suffer in matters of convenience through being on poor terms with the acquainted.
If people meet each other through religion on terms that they find positive, and it is better to have more positive acquaintances than less, then religious provides a net positive acquaintance gain in your life.
So far as I can find this is the one significant life improvement enjoyed by religious people.
