What are the elements that constitute a healthy travel show for the population's television-gluttonized majority?

Point out your favorites, or most retarded/numbing

I would like to fight Anthony Bourdain in a boxing match.

There's three main types of travel show
>1
An advertisement dressed up as a show. Clearly the host has had all food and accommodation provided by the company that wants some publicity.
>2
The holiday / lifestyle travel show that shows unrealistic places you can never afford
>3
Travel show that tries to realistically depict the place they are visiting

Not many fit into this third category because there isn't much of a commercial incentive for them to do so.

Pic not related, but New York in the 1980s is an almost unrecognisable place
>>
no reservations and globe trekker were my own favorites
>>
>>71793049

Even though Anthony Bourdain is a leftist, I feel he is somewhat respectable.
>>
>>71793049
anthony bourdain is a colossal faggot and a junkie. his condescending attitude make him impossible to watch. and most of the good shows are him doing something that is literally impossible for normal people to do unless they personally know the 3 star michelin chef he is hanging out with.

i prefer the comfier shows. like rick steves. and my all time favorite for comfiness was samantha brown. also, even though it isn't a travel show per say it sort of fits, i like the one where they show people a couple properties in a foreign place and then they decide which to buy/lease. "suzie and jim are retiring from vancouver and looking for a little excitement in war torn kosovo"

are you referring to House Hunters International? I loved that show, it was extremely insightful for HGTV
>houses in croatia literally blown to pieces
>mysterious unexplainable "extra tax" required for renting apartment in tokyo

looking back, samantha brown was touristy and contrived. at least it was better than what the channel shits out today.
nice intro to travel shows if you're an 11 year old.

yea i was talking about hhi, i just couldnt think of the name. i love that fucking show. like you just know half those motherfuckers are gonna get murdered.

and yea samantha brown was touristy and kitschy but that is what i liked about her. just an attractive soft spoken woman being all nice and shit in different places. pure comfy.

another not really travel show, but it shows cool places to eat in american cities, is the pure kino that is pic related.

That guy is pretty great. Drug user, funny, not delusional like most Americans. Just a down to earth kinda guy who likes food, alcohol, and heroin. Most of /pol/ could learn a thing or two from this non-judgmental world traveler.

Anthony Bourdain is an American hero
>>
parts unknown is pretty gr8
>>
>>71795778
the question was whether these are red pilled or not. this is a board for discussion and global politics, and travel related shows usually coincide with that.
>ur homosexuals go watch tv somewhere else

please present an argument
>>
Anthony Bourdain goes to the artsy fartsy section of the cities he travels to. Really misrepresents the places he visits.

I really like travel shows. I get to live vicariously through the host and their experience. I also don't have a threat to my well being by dirty foreigners. Bourdain and Zimmern seem like cool dudes to chill with until they start talking about politics. I know Zimmern is a massive SJW.

I hate Bourdain

Yes, but watch the first few seasons. They are great compared to the last few. You could see the look on his face when the "upper management" started controlling the show. Fuck them right in the ass. That show rocked before then. Bordain is great. CNN sucks for more than one reason. They were the first news network to stop allowing anonymous comments on new articles. Nice job CNN!!! way to censor what little say the fucking peasants have to interject into the conversation. Fuck you.
>>
>>71797544
No Reservations wasn't on CNN though...
>>71797618
He was a chef for twenty years. I appreciate that he uses food as a window into the culture and usually engages with the locals alot more.

That's pretty much the premise. He is a chef, who used to have a cooking show. He tells the story (whether you like the story is another matter) through the food he eats while spending time with locals or those who know the area

I don't know why you are so butthurt

I've actually got a lot of respect for him. He was a homeless drug addict for a little bit. Now he uses his experience eating disgusting things to eat disgusting things around the world and get paid for it. Really managed to unfuck his shit.

your ideal red pilled travel show would be a white man bitching about how nothing is as good as it is back home.

In which case I have the perfect show for you to really identify with the host.
>>
Red pilled
>>

You are a massive faggot.
>>
Travel shows are redpilled when you realize that globalism will destroy the all the unique and vibrant foreign cultures.
>>
>>71793184
>>71793049
Anthony Bourdain used to be a great red pilled travel show until CNN got their hands on him
>>
>>71799146
Why can't Karl Pilkington just have his own show without Gervais and Merchant showing up and just being fuckups? Do they think they have some essential place in the comedy?
>>
>>71799221
I should note, Rick Steves is a hardcore leftistfag and I got banned from his forums for trying to discredit his radio chat about the 'refugee crisis'. They had a faggot Swede, a Turk, and everything to support that shit. Was absolutely insane.
>>
>>71799249
100% this.
>>
>>71799249
Exactly.
>>
>>71799249
I have a feeling that CNN just let him off the leash, he's an alright guy but he's always been a lefty. Travel Channel had more of a reason to keep the show apolitical.

The Layover is another good fairly recent show of his.
>>
>>71798112
are you fucking shitting me?
>>
why does every aspect of life have to be assigned a blue or red pill
>>
>>71799547
No, Travel Channel kept it centered around food and touched on other experiences. He knows food and has experience to talk about it, then with antics touch into the rest. CNN tries to make him a complete travel guy who needs to touch on all things equally instead of focusing on the thing he is actually qualified for. He was trained as a fucking chef, not a political scientist, nor philosopher, nor historian, nor any other bullshit.
>>
>>71799547
I disagree, there was a huge narrative change when his show went over to CNN.
Before he went to CNN he would always shit talk a place in the commentary and if during the shooting if he thought it was bad, see the Finland episode, and the episode where he goes around in Africa for example
he'd always talk about the land and the architecture ect but politics was never really brought up or mentioned (at least not in depth and no really from any left or right wing view)
Now for example take the episode of him in Cuba, this is the first episode and last episode of his I saw since he went to CNN
>random cubans who have been shutout from america and its news for decades, most of which dont have electricity let alone internet access suddenly start chiming in about how awful the treatment of blacks in america is
>half the people Anthony sits down and eats with just start spouting typical leftist propaganda
I mean seriously
you expect me to fucking believe random cubans are more concerned with the state of an ethnic group in a totally different country are treated when they themselves are going through something that is (actually real) and 100% worse than anything BLM claims happens to blacks?
>>
>>71799682
As they should have done. Although I've always gotten the impression from some of his monologues and whatnot that he wanted to shine more of a light on social issues. Always got the impression that there was a producer standing behind him telling him not to do it. I could be wrong.

>>71799860
I'm not saying that CNN doesn't go out of their way to press a certain narrative. But I don't think that Bourdain is opposed, and frankly I think he agrees with that narrative more often than not.

I like his shows, but the guy is clearly a a left-leaning New Jerseyan at least.
>>
>>71800165
whom has no business tainting a solid food centric show with stupid political bullshit that polarizes every episode into a dramatic SJW-tier shitfest. When it is centered around food, it's centered around actual culture and history, not whatever political fad is in vogue that he feels he needs to be the center of the episode.
I don't want some propaganda-type bullshit, I want to learn about the world what it has to offer. I actually follow politics and world events, so I don't need to get a fucking tv show chef to tell me how to interpret what's going on like some sort of retard.
>>
>>71800165
i think he's from massachusetts so yeah he's about the same as every grungy old-school liberal i have ever met here. smart and charismatic but inherently left.
>>
>>71800454
I agree with you there, and I agree that the CNN show was a step in the wrong direction for him.

Hence, once again I'll recommend The Layover. It's comfy and doesn't really delve too deeply into political bullshit. Also a Travel Channel show, btw.

>>71800502
Is he? He might be one of those "I was born in X but I was raised in Y" types. I just know he identifies primarily as a New Jerseyan. Not that it even really matters. I should've left it at 'left-leaning'.
