I'll admit, the issue was more complex than flat out slavery. It was the stark cultural and economical differences between the North and the South, the failure of any politicians to compromise and hell, the majority of Southerners didn't even own a slave, yet to belittle the impact slavery had, is just pure foolishness.
I wish more people would understand that it was a slave TRADE, not white people raiding villages and dragging the inhabitants onto a boat. You'd need a fucking army to do that effectively; much easier to just trade some shiny European/American goods for the natives' war captives.
Point is, if they weren't taken to America, they'd still be slaves in Africa.

They didn't want them mixing with the white women and taking jobs from whites. Both sides did have groups that wanted to free the slaves for humanitarian reasons.
