Well, IQ and leftism are positively correlated. And to help corroborate this, the correlation between leftism and IQ is about the same as introversion and IQ. This doesn't mean that the right is bereft of intellectuals, just that they are statistically less likely to occur.
Remember, leftism is somewhat a predisposition insofar as moral intuitions and affinities for certain things are innate. My best guess is that the gene clusters, that is whichever myriad of alleles contribute to IQ in subtle ways, also produce other traits that nudge individuals towards leftism.
The American right wing has had quite a few intellectuals, the difference is that they are not proposing radical ideas because they agree with the tenants of our Constitutional Republic, whereas Chomsky sees Americanism as fundamentally flawed, and with such major flaws, the requirement of a greater solution pushes them into a radicalized philosophy.
You could argue that Chomsky and others, and Chomsky is not even that radical, but he and others sit in their ivory towers proposing a seemingly perpetual state of rebellion. At this point, its just rebellion and radicalism for its own sake.
Meanwhile America has the largest middle class in the world, expansive educational institutions, competitive industries and lots of room for upward mobility. It makes you wonder why anyone would be against this, there is no real precedent outside of America so a fundamental change is just nutty. Either you strive to have more of what we have now or you are trying to undermine it for some self-serving, self-righteous reason. Unfortunately, their often touted alternatives are well documented failure.
