"Evangelical" is just a catch all term used to describe a voting bloc of Christians that was politically active in the mid 00s. Effectively it doesn't really exist anymore, but there are still people who call themselves "evangelical Christians" when describing their beliefs without even really knowing what the definition is.
The official denomination of my family's church is "Evangelical Free Church" but it's had that name for a century, and it's a fairly loosely defined denomination since there is no "conversion process" for joining if you are from another denomination.
