Again we need to look at what kind of "wrong" doing those groups are doing. If they are in jail for taking drugs, there is no logical reason they should be in jail or have a criminal record.
Again the whole US criminal system needs to be changed. Three strike laws need to go. We need to adopt a Norwegian style prison system that concentrates more and rehabilitation over punishing criminals.

Republicans try to get people taken off the voter rolls for littering and jaywalking (if you think I'm joking, go to Florida sometime, I'm pretty sure they strip the vote from anyone convicted of any kind of crime, misdemeanour or felony), Dems try to get as many people as possible put back on.
Personally, I'm in favour of re-enfranchising as many people as possible. Gives the government less reason to push biased laws to get their political enemies taken off the voting rolls.
