I actually do sympathize with Hitler, but his policies were expansionist. Expansionism and irredentism are very common among nationalist ideologies- see Israel, "Macedonia," etc. Expansionism is inherently violent. You would have a bunch of nationalist societies invading each other all the time.

It may sound stupid, but hardcore hitler apologists legitimately believe that Hitler was forced to carry out a long series of "defensive invasions" completely against his own will.
In reality, Hitler believed Germans had a natural right to expand into and colonize Eastern Europe, which would be depopulated in what would surely be a very violent process. Actually the "natural right" for Lebensraum in the East was a notion that predates Hitler and the NSDAP. That's what I'm saying about nationalism- it tends to be expansionist.
