This wasn't meant as an insult, Dwarves have their flaws like Men/Elves but they're also part of the Free Peoples and are stronger willed and more principled than Men. Tolkein was well documented for his huge respect for Jews.

Dwarves are short, bearded folk that are somewhat separate from the other Free Peoples of Middle-earth, in both origin and culture. They lost their homeland and spread in small communities. They are passionate, possessive, jealous and shut their gates to the rest of the world when it suits them. Also their language is literally based on the Hebrew language.
Oh yeah, and in ancient times the Elves (Aryans) hunted them like animals.
