But there isn't a correlation.

So what you've got is one bullshit artists memeing and your shitpost trying to hype a non-event.
>>
>>71722641
there cant be any correlation between quakes and moon.
If moons gravitional pull was so strong that it could literally effect tectonic plates then earth would have gone to shit long ago.

Okay I'm not trying to freak out or anything but I decided to look into this.

Take it for what it is, but I went to wikipedia and quickly looked up the moon phases to the corresponding to the dates of the strongest Earthquakes recorded as followed:
May 22, 1960-Valdivia, Chile-1960 9.5
March 27, 1964 Prince William Sound, Alaska, United States 9.2
December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean, Sumatra, Indonesia 9.1
March 11, 2011 Pacific Ocean, Tōhoku region, Japan 9.0
November 4, 1952 Kamchatka, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union 9.0
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_earthquakes)

The took the top 5 I decided to see if there was a full moon on each occasion, and there was. Is this sheer coincidence?
>>
>>71723339
Well if this is true the bigger question is what there another variable to these earthquakes.

Check it out yourself, right now I'm going through dates of major earthquakes in recorded history, along with records of moon phases throughout the years. Pick a major earthquake and see if there was a full moon on that date, see for yourself. Most of them are the day before/after, some are on full moons. It's strange.

Yeah I see that there are some that are on full moons, but you can't give so much leeway when trying to make correlations. 2 out of the 5 you posted were on full moons. Now what would be a good correlation is to see how many and what magnitude were on super full moons.

Many others are on new moon too, or the day before/after.
>>
"Several recent studies, however, have found a correlation between earth tides (caused by the position of the moon relative to the earth) and some types of earthquakes.
One study, for example, concludes that during times of higher earth and ocean tides, such as during times of full or new moon, earthquakes are more likely on shallow thrust faults near the edges of continents and in (underwater) subduction zones. Lunar or solar eclipses represent, of course, special cases of full and new moon, but do not cause any special or different tidal effects from full and new moon. Earth tides (Earth's surface going up and down by a couple of centimeters) and especially ocean tides (surface of the ocean going up and down by a meter or more) raise and lower the confining pressure on shallow, dipping faults near continental edges and in subduction zones. When the confining pressure is lessened, the faults are unclamped and more likely to slip. The increased probability is a factor of ~3 during high tides. But you must stop and realize that the background probability is, in general, very low in a given place and year (fractions of a percent), so that raising this tiny probability by a factor of 3 during high tides still results in a very tiny probability.
There have also been some small but significant correlations reported between the semi-diurnal tides and the rate of occurrence of aftershocks in some volcanic regions, such as Mammoth Lakes."

Look I know tidal forces act on the tectonic plates, but this is by no means a way to detect when earthquakes will happen. We have a full moon every month and sometimes 2xs a month, so why don't we have major earth quakes every month?

You can make correlations with things completely independent of each other.

That would be intresting.

Sounds pretty far feched tho.

If the correlation is real it would most likely be that the moon was having some slight effect that usually is nothing but could tip the scales when a quake was overdue, just something that trggeres them earlier than it otherwise would.

Very hard to substantiate even if true.

nah , the gravitational effects of the other planets is very very low, even the moons tidal pull is thought to have only a modestly small effect on seismic events, the moons pull moving vast quantities of water with the tides will cause greater effects

I'm looking up the major earthquake dates in a simulator that shows the orbit of the planets/our moon.

So far the position of the moon/plus the position of the planets have a very interesting alignment with plate boundaries at the recorded time of these major earthquakes. I urge you to check it out if it sounds interesting to you, the more minds that collaborate on a subject like this the better. Any input on this would be appreciated.

Realistically full moon + planet aliment + solar storms = big earthquake

patterns have been found between all three of them and earthquakes, now their all falling at the same time.
>>
>>71725904

No shit. But the ring of fire has been going crazy, and the bounce between small / big quakes along it means there's a lot of pressure waiting to be relived along the fault.

Mix that with planet + moon causing gravity to act on the plates could = one big quake

It's all just speculation though, we'll find out in the next few days

Thus not every full moon causes a quake, but a quake can be triggered by a full moon

Sounds like bullshit to me. I counterpredict: No big earthquake today. And by big, I mean like mag 6 or over, not a 3.5 like what happens somewhere in the world every day.

>predicting to the exact day a major earthquake will happen
Seems legit.

Alex Jones pls go

Jokes aside though, yeah life straws are awesome. I was camping out near the appalacian mountains before and got lost, stuck for 5 days with little food and 1 16oz bottle of water left. Had a lifestraw with me, filtered this pool of runoff through it. Everything worked out okay, no dehydration.

If you're in LA when this goes off your city will be turned to liquid and you will be crushed to death. If you are in Seattle you will die from tsunami.
