Shuttle was an overpriced sack of shit that was horrible suited for the role it performed. Well, horribly suited for anything really, shuttle was fuckhuge and didn't need to be anywhere the size it ended up being. NASA could have just had an overqualified heavy lift launcher with optional spaceplane for human missions, if they didn't go full retard and buy into the reusability meme by sticking the engines onto the fucking orbiter. Dumbest decision they ever made, it ended up being twice as expensive as just launching cargo in expendable mode with literally a quarter of the lifting capacity the stack would have been. We've essentially been launching Saturn V sized rockets at half a billion dollars per mission to bring up bus sized tin-cans for the ISS one at a time when the ISS could have litearlly been completely finished in four missions if the shuttle stack could launch without the orbiter. Really, the shuttle was a piece of shit that was ill suited to perform any mission NASA might pursue. It only took NASA forty years to pull its head out of its ass and finally just stick the engines on the fucking external tank, which is really all the SLS is.
