Well, I usually thought I would need some pretty good proof of a god's existence, but lately I've been coming to terms that I'm not psychologically healthy, so any proof good enough to convince me of a higher power would also be pretty good evidence that I'm truly losing my mind.

I believe in that anything that becomes a concept in the collective consciousness of humanity and has real and lasting influence in the world, is real. So God is very real and very powerful. This is the same concept behind meme magic.

Our reality is shaped by our consciousness, and our consciousness is influenced by the sphere of thought around us, which directly controls how we interact with and shape reality. To make me stop believing in God, you would have to disprove his influence in the history of the world and the actions of men, which you cannot do.

How would you react if God told you to actively preach against worshipping him?

I do want to stick to my hope though, but a key part of that hope is believing that even if I do fall away, no matter how tragic that may be, I'm a son of God and that can't change.

So I may go to heaven for having put my trust in him before, but be ashamed initially because I was so weak to give in and doubt. Aren't the strong there to help the weak? Christ will not be ashamed to call us brothers.

And when I didn't believe, it was being introduced personally to what appeared to be satanists or some unnamed group. All the stories I had heard about who ran the world from the bible, it all made sense to me then and everything kind of fell into place from there.

The most logical answer is that there was an outside force, and until I am proven otherwise, 'tis what i shall believe.

i have rejected no science. you might find that the ven diagrams of faith/belief and science do not intersect at all. did you really fall for the science requires you to be atheist meme?
>>
>>71699965

I guess I'll reply.

Oceans formed by the beginning of atmospheric cycles contained many molecules such as carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Scientists have different views on how the building blocks of life were formed, but there is a theory where simple molecules, called RNA, were formed as part of underwater chemical reactions. These molecules held specific shapes, which allowed them (by chance) to perform "catalysis", which means the assistance of other chemical reactions. (molecular shape has a "square hole", so a "square molecule" sticks there, and can react)

Some pieces of RNA randomly formed to catalyze reactions that created a gradient, which means "more" of energy, salt, molecules, whatever, on one side of a system than the other.

This gradient, at its most simplest, is life.

The molecules that happened to catalyze these gradient reactions got bigger, and began to form more complicated catalytic machines, some even making more RNA!

This is life, and a couple billion years of nitrogen and hydrogen bouncing into each other made this.

Another note: the moment some teeny tiny molecule is able to make more of itself, Life is off to the races. Reproduction fucks up sometimes, and that is the basis of natural selection. Fuckups that are able to reproduce more, create more offspring. Fuckups that can't reproduce as well, don't have as much offspring.

Result: molecules that can reproduce better.

Not sure I would be convinced by anything at this point.

When the apparent evil one is the master of lies and the other has made no effort to differentiate himself to you, what do you do if the evil one poses as God? How do you know he's not? Nothing within human faculties would enable you to objectively determine which is which.

Only fuzzy feelings and skepticism. One wants blind faith, and the other uses lies to usurp motives. It's a game you're destined to fail.

Nice argument. I like the part where you provided evidence or examples to back up your reasoning.

Sounds cool except for everyone carrying around crosses. They are heavy, inconvenient, and make awful weapons. They'd be best left at home or something.

Really for me it would take a god himself to appear, prove that he is not just some alien with extremely powerful technology that we can't comprehend yet, and explain why he didn't just make a uniform world religion in the first place or hasn't made himself present more often.

Finally really it would require him to lay down what the one true religion is, because like 90% of what you idiots say on here as far as religion goes I'm pretty damn sure your god would not approve of in the slightest. Like seriously, y'all fucktards go "deus vult!" "lets kill them nigs, jews, mudslimes, and gays" and one of your commandments says "Thou shalt not kill", along with shit like "turn the other cheek". It's ridiculous.

So yea, if a god can come down, prove that it is a god and not some alien with superior tech, set down an actual religion that doesn't contradict itself and is not easily misinterpreted, and explains wtf is up with the universe then sure, I'll believe.

dogma is something you are taught, the church, ie. the way to properly worship the god that is so blindingly obvious to everyone. this is why you feel pain during your daily mental gymnastics to twist your mind into not believing what you plainly see.

i think your issue is common. a pre-atheist finds holes in written dogma, just like all of us have, yet we dont twist our mind into devaluing our lives and our very existence.

I'm not sure there is any proof he doesn't exist

Just look at DNA, it's been around for a long fucking time and it's something that is more advanced than any super computer that will be around in the next 10 years. It has actual physical codes on how to make a human. Scientist are quick to scream "volutionnl" when they can't even explain how the first micro organisms poped up to evolve from, and natural selection? It's just modifications of genes and traits that are ALREADY there. Everything has a cause and effect yet somehow the universe was thrown into existence by nothing. It's like a system of gears in a clock. They all work together, but some how there was a certain nothing that throw the first gear of the universe into motion. Everything around us is so damn complicated, our most brilliant designs as humans can't even come close to what the universe made by "accident" I mean just look at the cell diagram of the human eye. It connects to your brain and allows you to see the world, it has censors and a bunch of mechinism like that of the pupil, it works in a way to let in the perfect amount of light for your brain to process, it's amazing yet so complicated for even evolution or chance. Just put aside your "logical thinking" and use real logical thinking to think about the structure of our world and the actual complicitys that lie behind it, and if I am wrong about God, I've only wasted a tiny part of my life, much better than wasting my entire eternity because someone who gets paid 10x what I will ever get paid to look at cells under a microscope and tell me what lies beneath

I'm not here to convert you but there is something amazing behind a force that exists in 2 billion people. You may feel like a dumb fuck but since you won't lose anything by trying just look up at the stars and ask if he's there, ask for a sign and you'll start to see them. Got a problem in life?Try praying for a solution. They call it saving yourself for a reason. Good luck /pol/

Nah you don't need to feel superior because your delusional belief in a SUPREME being (who by default is your ultimate Trump card that can't be defeated) takes the place of your sense of superiority. You've given it over to skydaddy in a delusional attempt to make the crushing terror of reality more comforting to you.

With every word you type denying this, you prove it correct.

Oh, this guy is being an asshole and you know there's really nothing you personally can do about it, because for all intents and purposes, we're on equal footing as Humans. So how do you deal with the fact that someone is acting in a way you don't like? You delude yourself with an ultimatum fantasy. You may not have power, but what if you lived your life pretending there's an almighty being above everything who eventually WILL teach that asshole a lesson? Then, everything is kosher. You no longer have to worry or have responsibility because skydaddy will now solve every problem ever and it'll all be okay!

It's absolutely disgusting, but the worst part is people are oblivious to this mental gymnastics. It's cognitive dissonance. You're literally fabricating unbeatable solutions to problems you can't figure out how to solve other ways because it's too hard to put that much effort into it when you can just pretend it's all good eventually.

The Big Bang is by definition explainable, as space, time and the elements were created in that instant. But you seem to have difficulty grasping events after the Big Bang: events such as star and galaxy formation, planet formation, ocean formation, organic material formation and the origin of life. All of these were made possible by the fruits of the Big Bang: all of them have been explained. The only tenuous one left is the origin of life: even though it has a simple, common sense explanation, we still need some hard evidence.

If you want a falsifiable, empirically-demonstrated violation of the physical laws of reality as proof of the divine you are ipso facto precluding the possibility of anything meeting your standard of belieaveability. Its willful paradox.

I said man, not God himself. Also I have no clue why God would do such a thing, and how I'd be able to do so after that.

I am open to science, and I don't reject claims that have sufficient proof, but I always put my religion first.

It would take god actually speaking to me I think. Or some unexplained miracle in my own life.

This is the problem I have with religion.

Personally, I don't care about my own happiness. I want to be useful, considerate, and honorable.

I would never consider doing the right thing just because if I didn't I might get screwed. I don't really care if I get screwed. If there is a God and it decides I deserve an eternity of punishment, fine. If not and I get an eternity of pleasure, fine too. But I'm not gonna let that outcome be the determining factor of my actions in this universe

FUCK the next life. It can deal with itself and it's own problems, we have our own shit to take care of here.

You're not getting it. As stars burn through their fuel they create progressively heavier elements. This mass eventually comes together to form planets. It's not just "humanz r rokz lol" it takes billions of years for life to take hold.
