My first three jobs were:

>Sawmill labor
>Forestry worker / brush clearing
I made a point to take a lesson from each. Working for UPS I rode with a driver who actually taught me a bit about investing. Or at least showed me it paid off to do so. He was set to retire the next year with a christmas tree farm and a ton of UPS stock slowly purchased.
The sawmill job lasted one month. I learned I didnt want to work in a sawmill. Ever.
But clearing brush lasted two years. I had a pretty based boss. He didnt drink alcohol. Liked guns and the outdoors. Started from absolutely jack shit, 0, nothing. Started in logging before he started his brush business and put his wife through school, then together they bought land and built their own house.
He taught me to work my ass off and rewarded me for it as best as he could. He would skimp on his own check to make sure we all got paid. But he also showed me that working hard and being trustworthy paid off: up to two days a week I got to take off from labor to cruise around neighborhoods and drum up work, and hed pay me my hours plus extra per job commission.
It taught me my work ethic and taught me about respect. And frankly just showed me a bunch of little things about life I never wouldve known. Anyone who goes straight to college misses out on that, I wouldnt do anything differently.
