Most of those I notice around the uni usually are, plus they stand in the way a lot and never seem to notice. But the girl on the bus amazingly wasn't so loud. I bet she's from that international management school next to the compsci buildings that are a little off campus. Why not Japanese? If any language can claim the prize for having a needlessly complicated writing system, it's Japanese.
They use Chinese ideograms that have different pronounciations depending on in which context they stand. But the same thing goes the other way round: They also have same sounding words that mean different things depending on what Chinese characters to write it with. For grammar and some words that for some supersticious reasons are not spellt with Chinese characters, they have not one, but two syllable alphabets. One is normal, the other one is used for plant names and foreign words only.
