The 2016 is much roomier. Had the same problem with the first generation I mentioned. Knees would hit the dash trying to work the clutch. That problem doesn't exist in the ND. I love it. I've also owned it since the 90s. I've got two spare engines I've yanked and rebuilt over the years on my shop floor. I drive it every day. My RX-8 I bought with 1,500 something miles on it in 2008. I've only put 23k on it. I love it as well but also have a spare engine for it sitting in the garage. I guess both on your weekend/track car question. I also drive a Toyota Tundra. I'm not really worried if something breaks down. If it does then I just fix it. If you've got the tools, time, and a garage then you'll love an FC. It's harder to find engines these days at a reasonable price if you aren't rebuilding them yourself.

Only the American versions. RX7s get a bad reputation because clapistan only got the early versions without their problems stamped out. Those had inadequate oil coolers, overly complicated vacuum lines, bad aero for cooling, rudimentary ECU, and a bunch of emissions shit that was added specifically for the US market.
The later Japanese versions (which mine is) are much faster and more reliable cars.
