I think there's a correlation between war and radicalization. Chechens were barely a radical people when my family left (during the first war). After the first war, people grew up in a war torn environment and many people turned towards religion. What else do you have in such times? A lot of people also blame it on lack of education. Chechnya has been like a big village and war torn at the same time. I dunno what to blame it on. Also, remember that the first war was due to nationalist reasons and the second war was jihadist.

No. The families I know here are more secular than the ones in Chechnya though. But that's probably because they integrated to the secular structure of Turks. According to my parents, the Chechens were much more radical compared to Turks when they first arrived here. But they more or less adapted. A lot of families went back to Russia after the war.

Most Chechens who live in Chechnya and Russia appreciate Kadyrov and Putin for their investment in Grozny. He used religion as a utility because religion can be an important thing after all. Same goes for Benjamin Franklin, he was barely religious but knew the importance of religion.

They kept fighting between themselves and it wasn't like normal fights, it was like they were trying to kill each other constantly. I heard some of them brought knvies to school but I didn't see that so maybe that was just a rumour.
