Heat will always travel from high pressure to low pressure. Granted an explosion is high pressure which would force the hot air down at first, however it would cool and lose energy as it traveled, not intensify. Also this process would only occur as long as there was high pressure above to force the air down. The only way heat could travel downwards in that picture would be either burning debris falling down inside the tower (not possible thanks to having floors....) or the heat conducted inside the steel beams through phonons and conducting electrons. The hot air, that was warmed up by the fire will travel upwards.
