Basic income is better than minimum wage and if you understood economics you would be supporting it.
A $15 minimum wage will be a big bruise on small businesses. This is undoubtable. It will also raises prices for all businesses which will likely slow down the economy, even if the poor people have more money to spend.
A basic income is perfect. Knowing that their basic living will always be covered, people will be better workers and be more competitive. Everyone will have everything covered, so instead of fighting the government to pay less taxes, they'll be busting their ass at their job trying to get better pay and keep more of their own money.
People who are just living off the basic income will likely spend some of the money on non-necessities like video games, movies. This is good for the economy. It's called "injecting demand" and it keeps money flowing through the economy and helps businesses thrive. More customers.

That's a very likely scenario. The energy stocked in the ground on one form or another will eventually run out and we will have to find a way to turn the solar energy into an hydrocarbure. Imagine all the deserts in the world and half the ocean used to produce methanol or di-hydrogen.
This will probably not happen before 3000 and only if civilization find a way to survive the overpopulation in Africa.
