I was in Oman in 2011. Nothing happens here except a bunch of dune coons standing in 45 mph winds getting sand blasted in the face. I went to a single "mall" which was about 3 stories and had maybe 15 businesses inside of it. There was a single escalator that spanned 3 stories of this mall; you could not get off on the second floor. Had to take the stairs for that. All the Omani patrons of this "mall" were equally miserable, probably from getting pelted in the face by sand all day.
