I really like these designs. Placing iconic American achievements/moments on our money like scientific discoveries or famous photos would be extremely badass.
Let's go back to having true "greenbacks". Banks used to print their own currency. In an effort to ensure that the currency was viable, the government stepped in and took over the back side of bank notes, guaranteeing their value. So the front of the bank notes were still of the bank's design but the design on the back was by the US government and obviously green in color.
We could have a new variation on this. One side of the bill would have a government standardized design with all the anti-counterfeiting features while the other side had whatever an outside organization wanted printed on it. Could be a historical figure they want to promote, could be a social cause, could be an advertisement for Coca-Cola. They'd all be legal tender... here's the catch. In order to have your design printed on legal tender, you must pay 5% of the face value. If your cause is really that important, put your money where you mouth is and pay to have your message on the currency. No freebies. Pay or no design for you. Go buy an ad in the back of the Penny Saver instead.
