I've been 8 years federated in a handball team and met and talked with the legendary Talant Duishebáyev.
Handball players are usually indiferent or right winged, at least in Spain. In my team, 80% of my mates were right wing or even far right Falange supporters. Only two or three of them were kind of hippies but they still hated the moors.
I've met some old players and the ones that I managed to get political with were also right wingers. The ones that don't want to talk politics are because they actually don't care. People in sports are rarely affected by politics.
Anyone choosing a sport after political tendencies is a retard by definition. Handball can be as though as rugby if its played in a more aggressive style.
