That's because your assumption that these people apply logic to their beliefs is wrong. The left does not act based on reasonable, fact-based concerns. There is no internally consistent logic there.
What you need to do is start bearing this in mind: that people who hold progressive views don't do so because they've thought the merits of those beliefs through all the way. They hold these views because:
a) Progressive views sound good to half-developed minds (people who can read and write nicely, but can't think for themselves and therefore follow whatever idea has the most superficially convincing arguments);
b) Progressive views are the most popular at the moment, and people (especially those who are neither very dumb nor very smart) are herd animals who want to fit in;
c) Progressive views are often taught as fact in schools, and people who have no affinity for politics, history or philosophy will just accept them to get on with their lives.
