Most of te bad stereotypes associated with the Chinese, I find, are often simply because the government is such shit and is so corrupt, and the people living in China are so desperate, that they really do need to act selfishly and apathetically toward each other to survive, but it's not because they want to. When outside the toxic influence of the CCP, they are some of the nicest people in the world.
My best friend is from China originally, and has been in the states 8 years this coming August, He was initially upset about going back home, but felt he needed to because his parents were in bad health, but they told him to stay, because they didn't want him ton go through the things they went through.
He once told me in China that he saw a child hit by a car, and wanted to help, but didn't because people over there often sued good samaritans. He now helps out homeless in New York City every other weekend with his church (He converted to Christianity last year. Not my thing, being an atheist, but I can respect his decision.)
Used to have the same stressed work ethic as any stereotype of Chinese when he first arrived. Now he's just a laid-back as any of my other friends.
And although his English is scruffy, it's better than that of some of my more hick neighbors.
While you will always have your bad apples from China, most of the Chinese I have interacted with are nothing but nice. I don't think the Chinese as a race are the problem; the rotten cancer of the CCP is the problem.

People in poor places just care less about others and have to get as much for themselves as possible. look no further than india, or brazil with their rampant robberies, or any other poor as fuck place. You'll find some pretty rough old folks in South Korea, too, who are rude and inconsiderate, because they grew up in that poor era in the 70's. The younger generation is a lot better, and it's the same in China.
