Anybody here know of any websites that can estimate costs for hospital bills? I'm Canadian but I'm interested in seeing how much my sister's operations would have cost us if we had lived in the states.

>Sister wakes up with partial paralysis of her face
>goes to the emergency room at around 8am and is seen by a doctor within minutes and is given a bed a few minutes later
>discover an abscess in her brain
>next day she is told she is having surgery in 4 hours
>surgery lasts 3 hours goes perfectly and she spends the next 10 days in the hospital recovering and having a second minor operation and having a few light seizures

So total:

11 days in Toronto Western Hospital (1 in emergency, 2 in intensive care, 7 in normal rooms)
2 brain surgeries that targeted the top of her brain
Penicillin IV for 6 weeks

100% free. How much would that have cost in the US with insurance and without?
>>
Lol have fun with the brain damage. Our healthcare is a joke, wait till you are 50 and go in for hip surgery and come back out paralyzed, and they just go "oops sorry".

Just think what it would be like if there were no indians i swear everytime i go to a hospital its a gauntlet of chainsmoking alcoholic grotesque indians hanging out waiting for their equally fucked up cousin to get out of surgery for getting stabbed by his/her uncle over a mickey of whiskey that he thought the cousin stole but later found out he dropped it under the table when he passed out its just frustrating to see the system leeched on by people who dont pay tax dont take care of themselves and go to the hospital like its a resort
>>
>>71581549

In the U.S. it would cost the hospitalization deductible on her coverage, which is usually pretty reasonable. If she didn't have insurance it'd probably cost upwards of 150k or more.

Now, how much will your sister pay in taxes to pay for her healthcare over her lifetime? Her coverage wasn't free at all, unless she's going to be a poorfag all her life.
>>
>>71581987
I am glad your sisters ok and I'll pray she heals up, but I have seen way too many people get fucked by our healthcare to believe you.

I was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma (blood cancer).

Need to wait until JULY just to see the head of hematology at the hospital to finalize and begin my treatment.

Hopefully Im not dead before then.

Canadian recently moved to NYC (currently on business in Mexico flagfags)

With insurance, your sisters hospital visit would have cost $500 (based on my employers insurance)

Without insurance, many many tens of thousands.

But if you have a job, you and your family have insurance, so nothing really to worry about.

I worry a lot more about not being able to access healthcare when I return to Canada.

There is NO WAITING in the US for anything.

>>71581549
The way it works here is she would get treated and pay $5k to cover the deductible (with insurance). Without insurance she would get treated and get a huge bill around $500,000 or so. Upon getting the bill she could negotiate it down to maybe $25k with a payment plan. Hospitals know people can't afford this shit and want to get something rather than nothing. Of course she could declare bankruptcy at any time and be free of the debt or negotiate to something very low.

Medfag here at ok private hospital in US.

We get tons of Canadians here and they come because they can't get quality surgeons in Canada and they can't get the surgeries they need unless it is emergent.
Also they are amazed at how clean, friendly, and efficient the hospital is

Don't fall for the media Jew propaganda, America has the best health care, but we have tons of flips, niggers and spics mooching off the system and making our numbers look like shit due to bad genetics and shit tier self control.

Our interventional outcomes are the best regardless.

>chinks
>baby boomers
>>
>Walking the dog one day in winter
>slip and fall on my butt quite hard
>ow but think nothing of it
>get sicker and sicker over the next week or so
>go to walk in clinic who sees that I cut myself when I fell and i didn't realize
>cut has gotten infected but he gives me kflex
>still feel terrible after a couple of days
>wake up in the middle of the night with INTENSE chest pain
>try and tough it out for an hour or so before realizing that this is serious and i need to go to the hospital
>within 5 minutes of walking in i'm on a bed
>tell them my symptoms and they hook me up
>the machines are telling the doctors that I have had a heart attack
>wat.....i'm 23 years old
>they quickly lance the injury on my butt but my chest still feels terrible
>get put into intensive care about 8 hours later

Turns out the butt wound activated my unknown case of acute Infective endocarditis.

Every single case i've heard of people waiting for long periods of time are either lying or are a bunch of pussies who shouldn't be wasting the staff's time with their minor health problems.

Maybe around $7000 with insurance. How health insurance works in the US is that your total costs for the year are summed up, and based on that sum you can be in three different "levels" which determine how much you pay. When the sum is between zero and your deductible, you pay 100%. When the sum is between your deductible and your out-of-pocket limit, you pay some percentage of the costs, called the coinsurance. When the sum is above your out-of-pocket limit, you pay nothing. The deductible, coinsurance percentage, and ouf-of-pocket limit vary by insurance plan, but on a typical employer-provided plan the values would be something like $1000, 30%, and $6000, respectively. A plan with lower numbers will cost more per month.

Everyone with a brain has insurance in the US, so it's not really reasonable to compare the uninsured cost. Without insurance, costs are insane, I'd say $100k-$300k for this much hospital time.

Fuck man, I really feel for you bro. Attending UBC I deal with fuckers on a daily basis. Just pure vileness. Our local, provincial, and federal politicians are cucks of the highest level.

Fuck the mayor of Vancouver's inlaws we're arrested for money laundering in China.

I've known chickers to use the same care card for multiple people.

Fuck, this shit is gonna give me an aneurysm. Knowing our wait times and the amount of chinks in the waiting room for benign problems, I'll probably die.

If you're looking for a laugh, look at the emergency room wait at Richmond, shit is always the longest by far.
>>
>>71585334
The worst cases for the uninsured in the US seem to be when they can try to get payment up front by withholding care. That is, if there is no immediate threat to life.

Naw, we're not going to re-attach your thumb because you can't pay for it. We'll sew it shut and stop the bleeding, and send you home with some penicillin. Too bad you didn't have insurance.

No, the room was probaby full of boomers, chinks, and other immigrants who had some ache and decided to head to ER to kill time.

>>
>>71581549
In the US we get our infections treated when they are mild fevers, we don't have to wait until there is a brain abscess.
>>
>>71586000
I don't think that would be the case. I could be wrong, but I sure there r plenty of people that get cancer treatment in early stages when they have no means to pay.
>>
>>71581987

You do realize they factor price and "accessibility" into these rankings, right?
>>
>>71581987
that's from a 16 year old report based on data from 19 years ago. that's a poor measure from a debatable study. this is better:

http://www.numbeo.com/health-care/rankings_by_country.jsp

canadian healthcare can be good for more run of the mill easily diagnosed maladies and once a diagnosis is made, the time to an OR is fairly quick if needed. it's cancer and a lot of the harder to diagnose diseases that will fuck you here. and there's still a reason why canadians with money will go south.

also, i'm so fucking tired of insecure canadians dick measuring with americans as far as healthcare goes because it gives us a skewed sense of superiority over how poor our system is. want an accurate comparison of how well our healthcare system is doing? measure it with other countries with similar systems, populations and gdp. we rank last or close to last in a lot of areas.
>>
>>71581549
The massive medical bills you see on leddit are a meme. They know they can charge however much they want because it goes directly to the insurance company for 99% of people. If you have no insurance you can often negotiate the price to much cheaper or get it for free. The muh high medical costs are pretty much hospitals scamming insurance companies and those prices are not meant to be payed by actually people.

>>
>>71587373
It's really a scam. I mean they do try to fleece them for more than what they need, but they do actually require a lot more money than just what the operation and materials cost. The reason it's so expensive is lawyers and liability insurance that the doctors and hospital have to pay. If the doctor messes up and gets sued, that has to be resolved in a way that allows the hospital and the doctor to continue doing their jobs. Because if the doctors lose their practice and the hospitals are all driven to bankruptcy, then who are they helping? Nobody.

The humane solution would be to execute all lawyers, but since that's not happening the hospitals need their own legal teams and malpractice insurance to prevent disaster.

>>
>>71581549
You got to see a doctor that quick in emergency? Fuck negro Im usually there waiting for two hours sitting next to other people that are dying and shit
>>
>>71581549
the wait times of our health system are vastly over exaggerated in foreign media and our own conservative media. the time it takes to get medical care will accord with your need. makes sense.

>noticed lump on neck last week
>look up free clinics near me online
>drive five minutes to a free clinic, wait for 20 minutes
>doctor sees me and orders two tests, got both of them this week
>calls me that test results will be ready on Saturday and i can come in on the weekend to talk about results

all for free. and we outperform US system in terms of life expectancy and health care expenditure cost per capita. cheaper and more effective.

>100% free. How much would that have cost in the US with insurance and without?

It's not free. You pay a shitload of extra taxes as a nation, and you have increased prices on goods, big time.

Safety Net insurance will cover anything past 3,500-10,000 dollars on most job plans. So, after that amount, everything else is paid for. You slowly pay off your insurance.

My plan is the worst health plan available at my work place, so I pay 2,500 deductible, and everything after is paid for.

>Now, how much will your sister pay in taxes to pay for her healthcare over her lifetime? Her coverage wasn't free at all, unless she's going to be a poorfag all her life.

Then cost of health care in Canada as a function of GDP is about half what it is in the USA, and that covers 99% of people for 99% of care.
The cost savings come from not having to track and charge people for everything, not having to justify or having to fight every bill.
For example, New Hampshire employs as many health care administrators as Canada does while having 1/34 of the population.
