If they do that, they suddenly take on all the responsibility of managing north korea. It's an area with little infrastructure, practically non-existant national economy, few natural resources and primarily undeveloped land, the last of which China still has vast swathes of their own already.

You can't just kill Kim and replace him. Remember when his uncle got executed a while back?
