>cut taxes to his buddies
>implemented the trickle down myth
>shipped U.S industry overseas
>began process of deregulation

He is literally the starting point of all of the U.S' economic problems.

Don't forget how he gave amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. They still remember him for it, but they vote Democrat anyway.
>>
His economic policies, while not great, had large amounts of backing.

He was a genuinely amazing speaker, and got us through some scary times, confidently navigating the latter days of the cold war, and seeing us through the tragedy of the Challenger accident.

I can hardly fault him for endorsing economic principles which the constituency wanted, even if the idea of trickle down is flawed.

And holy shit was he ever one of the most effective public speakers to ever hold the executive office.

8/10. Right man for the right time.

Ond of my friends thinks he's a pure conservative & argues that Reagan was the best president solely because of the economy under him.

I challenged the idea that Reagan's economy was as amazing as he claimed it to be, & he called me a retard for it.

Was the economy really that amazing under him? If not, why? I need some points to prove that this guy's the real retard.

Great man, decent first term. bad second term.

>gun control
>amnesty
Literally the embodiment of cuckervatism.

For those of you who seem confused about Reagan, it is important to put his history into context.

He was a filmmaker for the US army, who also had a few civilian films under his belt.

He was a longtime Democrat until the largely Jewish paleoliberal (more often called neoconservative) wing abandoned the Democratic party because of the flirtation with Marxist philosophy and the increasing isolationist sentiments within it.

Reagan was a moral moderate with strong liberal beliefs, and a financial libertarian.

While he supported an assault weapons ban, he did loosen existing gun control laws.

His track record with weapons is a mixed bag, and I like to think his middle path was alright.

Mostly, Reagan seemed fine to follow the will of the constituency on this one, like he did with a lot of his legislative support.

Yes. Look at the nearly uninterrupted economic growth from 1983 to 2007 which only came to an end as a result of the Carter-Clinton home lending policies and Bush monetary policy if you want your answer why.

Look at the rest of the developed world. They grew in tandem to the US despite not selling out their poor and middle classes. The growth happened in spite of Reagan, not because of him.

>Tax cuts produced massive economic growth
>"trickle down" meme was invented by his detractors
>jobs began moving overseas en masse due to Nixon and Carter "normalizing" relations with China, were already moving to Japan in smaller numbers before that
>myth of deregulation
Somebody got their history from Salon.com and Facebook memes.

Overall, he was just another president. He was very strongly against Communism/Socialism. So that's nice.

>>71564255
And that was because of the Fed's interest rates. Not Reagan. People make the same mistake with Obama.
>>
America prospered in the short term because of him. Today, a lot of the reasons were are under are because of him.
>>

Good president. Often blown out of proportion because he came immediately after carter, but he was crucial to killing the soviets and overall a pretty good president

The rest of the world grew because the US grew, just as the rest of the world goes into recession when the US goes into recession. You are dependent states.
