This annoys me.
It's expected to catapult yourself into thousands of dollars of debt, just to get a degree that may or may not be useful.

Hell, most people go into university to get a degree simply because it's "expected", and then they go into a degree that won't pay off.

It's still retarded that you're expected to drown in debt in order to get a decent job. In b4 weldingmeme posters.
>>
>>71554497
I've been looking for a job recently because I fear for my current position.

Almost everybody asks for unreal requeriments for a petty salary.
Like they want someone with 5+ years of experience on several tasks that don't necessarely relate, be able to stick to unrealistic deadlines and they also want him to be young because if you're 30+ you're dismissed.
For all this they pay you 800€/month where the average cost of the rent is above half of that number.

So you're basically working on a senior/expert level but forced to live on a shared appartment and the working conditions are also shit.

I've seen jobs that are quite more realistic that offer you 2k€/month for half of what others ask in terms of experience but those are rare and you have to compete with more than 1k people.
>>
>>71559347

> In b4 weldingmeme posters.
What? Welding is actually a very profitable trade. You can get a job practically anywhere and make a good amount of money while you're at it. You don't need a college degree to get a good job.

Even then this doesn't weed all the shitheads and retards out. Face it, no amount of complaining will change the fact that most companies will require a degree for even the most simple of office positions, and this will only rise going forwards.

I've also heard stores of companies preferring to hire in house i.e. someone with partial requirements anxious for a promotion and just a few dollars extra an hour. Thing is by law the company must post the job so they put exorbitant requirements that can't be met so that they are justified to pick from within when they can't fill the position externally.

CS is a fucking meme for most of the people since they do it for "muh paper and 100% job in the future" while companies nowadays seek people with passion and who actually know their shit.

Of course there is a new trend where people don't actually do higher-education , still have no "passion" and still try to self-teach themselves to get employed, but 95% of them fail ( that's why i said "try").Those are the people you should want to avoid.

I work at an office making $40k/year. You probably don't need to be very smart or educated to do my job, but every now and then, you have unusual situations that could lose the company a very large client if you fuck up. In those situations, someone with experience has a better shot solving the unusual problems that arises.

Boston was essentially like this.

Its shit even getting a basic office job there unless you have a bachelors, 5+ years of experience in an office setting (and some won't even take you unless you have half a decade of experience in a SPECIFIC office setting), your own car (because parking is oh so easy to find in that cit- oh wait), and this was just requirements I saw for entry level. The pay? 13/hour to be somebody's bitch, in a nutshell.

Hell, even the fucking stores on Newbury wanted somebody that had EIGHT. YEARS. of experience in CONTEMPORARY WOMEN'S ACTIVEWEAR.

A fucking RETAIL store.

I applied for years and the same ads for help wanted kept popping up, meaning these fuckers need to lower their standards if its been like two years and they can't even find somebody.

Apprenticeships are paid, fucknugget. Depending on the trade, sometimes they're paid better than the service industry.

Since everyone's getting Jewed into the debt mill that is modern college, trades are hurting pretty badly for new blood. It's going to be a good market to be in for the next decade.

No one understands how to apply to unions anymore.

"Networking" is how you get your name out there by doing things for people so they know you can be counted on for paid employment. I'm not talking about joining a shitty fraternity, I commuted all throughout college because I didn't see the point in fraternities of "the college experience." I'm talking about becoming a known quantity of dependability at places where you want to work while you're in college so that when you graduate they know you can do good work after. Just going to random places and giving it the ole firm handshake isn't enough, you need to go further. You need to be there for a reason and the firm handshake needs to be backed up by good work

I actually did just that. First year was about making mobile apps, the second year was about getting my name out there. Better part of the third year was about working in a company was working for a company I applied during the first year, but with approximately 3.5x the pay I asked on my application because I named the prices as such on the company website.

Smoke and mirrors. It's utterly fucked and I don't even understand how it all works, but I make more money on my own than I would ever have under someone else. And the potential employers end up paying usually more than they would have to IF THEY HIRED ME IN THE FIRST PLACE.
>>
>>71569205
Its laziness and nepotism. It shouldn't be as difficult as it is to get a fast food or fucking retail job. Fuck, my aunt was fifteen in the 80s and her first job was a receptionist for a real estate company and she was making more than teens today do.

I've been told that some managers have a quota to fill for how many people they interview and some will just schedule interviews and then report back to their superior that not a single person was a good candidate just because they don't feel like doing any work.

When it got out of school I was surprised how shit the options were. I ended up in a job in sales that didn't require any education. After doing that bullshit for a while I got a trade.degree and started a small business doing renos. Its picked up now. Slow at the start, as all start ups are.

But to say you need daddy bucks to start, you don't. You can get a business grant if you have a strong proposal. That was the only useful thing I learned in university. Unfortunately, the grant was for less than I owed in loans.

It's tough work to make it look good. You don't need to be a genius by any measure but it involves a lot of sanding and then to oul it (I.e stain it) you can fuck up the colours if you don't apply properly. So I wouldn't hire someone to do it if they've never done it, either. Don't need a lot of experience but at least once or twice before or you'll likely ruin my fucking furniture.

That's a nice theory, I just disagree with it. Look at the guys from the Duke lacrosse rape case. Those guys all had Wall Street junior executive positions lined up after graduation. Was the education they received at Duke so amazing that they were the best qualified, or did their family and college "network" help them out? You could argue you need someway to vouch for people l, but you can really see that the 'privilege' meme isn't entirely baseless.

Anyways, I applied, early on, for 4 different lab positions that involved literally just counting corn in a field and then doing very simple soil tests. You could train a nigger who knew nothing to do this job. Anyways my resume was basically fine grades and a series of odd jobs over the years.

I could not get a single job offer in a lab. So I applied for another random odd job as a service worker and I got the job offered to me literally as soon as I sat down in the office chair.

I have no idea what is going on.
