When they say 90%, that doesn't mean 10% of all the different kinds will survive.
It means many types of coral will completely die. And the types that live only in that area will go extinct.
But more importantly, if the stony corals that actually build the reefs die. Then the reefs will begin to disintegrate. If that happens all the soft corals will die as well (if the chemicals haven't killed them already).
The death of these corals will cause the death of small reef fish and invertebrates. When they die, so too will the larger predators. It will cause a total destruction of the entire ecosystem.
These ecosystems will not return for thousands of years if at all.

The main threat to coral is not climate change, but the increasing acidity of the oceans as excess CO2 in the atmosphere reacts with ocean water and creates carbonic acid. The oH difference is small, but builds up over time. And it doesn't take much to slowly dissolve the calcium carbonate that makes up the skeletons of almost all corals.

I've been alive long enough to see more than one el nino and every time the weather system happens huge swaths of coral bleach themselves.
