It's... a bit more complicated than that. You know how catholic believe that god is actually three person in one (and even that isn't quite a proper description)? Mashiach ben Yosef and Mashiach ben David are the terms use for the two different aspects of the Jewish messiah, with Yosef dying for israel to be redeem and thus allowing his return as Mashiach ben David to bring victory and glory to the Jewish people, forever.
There is a large variety of opinions regarding the exact nature of the two messiahs, including the more common interpretation in the time of Jesus that they were simply the same entity which would be revived, to the idea that he might just be two completely different dudes (which is to this day not widely held), and everything in between.
I would suggest learning as much as you can about Jewish theology because it's an amazingly deep thing which has more semantic arguments than any other religion I've ever seen.
