What this Jew said, you must have been born of a Jewish mother to be considered Jewish by blood/descent since it is a matrilineal system traditionally. Otherwise you'd have to go through the conversion process yourself, and in America there's like 3 major denominations (Reform, Conservative, Orthodox).
