A large emphasis on national pride and commitment towards society, as well as a focus on self-reliance.
Importing was very limited, and the results it had on culture can be seen to this day. For example, a very large portion of Croatia's population loves VW Golf cars, simply due to the fact that aside from natively produced cars (which were utter shit), the only car you could possibly import and get was a Golf. It produced a following and the trend continues to this day.
Economically, it received huge investments from the western block which wanted it on it's side against the soviets.

The differences between ethnic groups. Catholic and Orthodox slavs can't peacefully coexist. Tito and his emphasis on Yugoslavian nationalism was the only thing keeping everyone together. When he died, people gradually stopped referring to themselves as Yugoslavs and instead called themselves Croats, Serbs etc.
