In a shocking move likely to crush the US economy overnight, China is refusing to make its new gold-backed Yuan, convertible from or to US Dollars. The new Yuan will be introduced next Tuesday, April 19.

When the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreed to add the Yuan to the basket of world currencies used for Global Reserves and International Trade, they wanted China to make the Yuan more reliable as a currency. Since then, China has almost un-pegged its Yuan from the Dollar, allowing its value to fluctuate on world markets.

But for years, China has been amassing huge amounts of gold bullion; some have said their appetite for bullion has been “staggering.” And with a new gold-backed Yuan to be issued next Tuesday, the entire world will have a choice of a new currency to use for international trade: The old US Dollar which is backed by nothing, or the new Chinese Yuan, which is backed by gold. Which currency would YOU use?

When this new currency is issued, countries that have been forced to use US Dollars for decades, and have had to keep billions of dollars in their foreign currency reserves, will be free to dump those dollars. But they won’t be able to dump them to China for the new gold-backed, Yuan!

China has reportedly decided ”there can be no conversion of gold-backed Yuan to or from US dollars.” What China fears is that many countries around the world will want to trade their reserve US dollars for the new Yuan, leaving China with mountains of worthless US dollars. China already has several trillion in US dollar reserves and does not want or need more.

If news of this decision by China is correct, then countries around the world may just have to decide whether or not they wish to continue trading with the USA at all?

The upheaval this could cause as early as next week, would be staggering.

This is a fast-developing story; check back.

China has not choice but to allow the Yuan to be convertible freely to dollars or any other of the world reserve currencies literally it's a required part of the position. China is a paper tiger and it's made out of shit debt paper the U.S. swindled it with
>>

>China is a paper tiger

People like you have been saying this for decades. It's time to wake up and face reality.
>>
>>71428672
Obviously, what they are saying is that they will not allow for a mass conversion upon release.
>>
>>71428683
China's money represents something of worth, and does not want to give it away for worthless US banknotes, of which is has trillions already.

US's money is inherently worthless as it represents the credit of the nation, which is shit apparently and China owns trillions in US debt.

They are trying to make their money take over as the world standard, i.e.: most valuable.
>>
>>71428921
they literally have no choice, world reserve currencies must be freely convertible between each other. It doesn't matter anyway as the world isn't going to suddenly jump all in on Chinese securities or currency. For as bad as the U.S. is it's still the safest place to park money and will remain so for a long time
>>
>>71428944
>China's money represents something of worth
and what is that exactly? because the Yuan is a fiat currency also and this new fangled gold back Yuan is a myth that's never going to come to fruition unless the entire world returns to a gold standard
>>
Funny this comes at the exact same time that we announce we are putting women on our money.
>>
>>71429165
people value gold for myriad reasons. always have and always will. a currency backed with gold is preferable than a currency backed by faith. faith which is obviously faltering, as we can see by the mere fact China does not want any more USD
>>
>>71428392
>backed by gold
Not like the Chinese cook the books or anything.
>>
also there is no new 'gold' yuan the chinese have simply created a yuan denominated gold market in the Shanghai exchange which means that in that particular market gold trades for yuan instead of any other world currency this literally means nothing as the biggest gold market in the world is in London and will remain so despite China's fickle move to appear to be a financial powerhouse. Next time you probably want to actually research the issue before falling for click bait articles as well
>>
>>71429290
there is no currency backed by gold you idiot, all this means is that there will be a yuan denominated exchange market for gold i.e you can exchange yuan for gold directly. surprisingly just like you can exchanged any other currency for gold so by that logic all the world currencies are backed by gold then
>>
>>71428392

This is so stupid, their growth would be stunted by a gold backed currency. You need to have more money as your economy grows, thus it would require more and more gold.

Get over the gold standard. It won't work again. Fiat money is the now.

It is all working like clockwork. There is absolutely no way USA can win China in long run even if China just keeps on doing what it has been doing for the last 40 years. This move would cut wings off USA and make China's dominance permament and do it much faster. I was predicting 2040 year of total Chinese global dominance, now I'm betting on 2020.

>>
>>71428683
The old economic system had gold and precious metals backing the currency notes. That is, the intrinsic value of currency is derived from a physical asset.

That was not good enough for doing business and expansion, so most countries fucked off gold standard and started printing money, especially US since they can just print new money to pay off all debts as the entire world uses dollars.

If China goes gold standard, their currency has solid value, no worry of default as gold reserves can be utilized. That also means US no longer has monopoly to print more money to settle its debt. It cannot import/export anything using its own currency as Yuan is now the best thing in the market.

When will this meme end? The gold standard is literally a tool used to give banks supreme power over the state. Credit-based economy, while not perfect, is objectively better. The advent of credit-based economics is one of the main things that allowed Britain to defeat Napoleon, whose rigid gold-standard economic ideology couldn't compete.
>>
>>71430667
A gold backed currency encourages saving and gives too much power to the working class.

An imaginary currency lets the elites flood the country with money that constantly loses value, which makes people have to work non-stop to maintain anything. The only things safe from this kind of currency are owning either real estate or the means of production. Everyone else is constantly losing earning power

You see, the point of metal-backed money is that it has a real 1:1 translation to human work spent - the value of work done to extract the metal from the earth is now the standard against which all other work is measured. When your currency is backed by nothing but your promises and when it's subject to changes in mass on a whim of the guys controlling the printer it becomes really hard to make this 1:1 connection between actual work and its value, and so you become prone to various nasty shit like ridiculous inflation. It makes sense to have your money directly represent a unit of human labor.

We know the dollar crash is inevitable and comming and preparing for over decade. That said it`ll likely take another decade for it to actually happen - next few years should be relatively stable.

If that's threatened (dollar status as reserve currency) the US economy completely implodes.

For thousands of years GOLD was the fiat currency of the world because it was universally malleable and portable and everybody wanted it; it was the most efficient means of valuing wealth. Now that gold is a consumable resource in the production of electronics and the like, it is no longer a valuable store of wealth or an efficient fiat currency. The nigh physically useless dollar on the other hand, backed by American hegemony and global capitalism, is not liable to be replaced by heavy metals any time soon.

Gold is outdated. Get with the times grandpa, it's not the 1800's anymore!

A superior currency will be backed by a diverse range of assets, rather than just one. Gold is simply another asset on the market, that fluctuates wildly according to supply and demand. As anyone on Wall Street will tell you, the most stable store of value is not in a single asset but in a diversified basket

With modern technology it's easy to exchange assets and adjust portfolios. Having a diverse currency is not out of the question.

Kind of this, Burger land thrives on our ability to strong arm smaller weaker countries with economic hits to reallocate resources or generally keep the economic climate in favor of burgerland, but that changes when it's a bigger country like China, we can't play the same economic hit game that we do with smaller less stable countries. I'm not going to claim to know how this will play out, but it's way different then with most of the countries we try to fuck with.

40, or even 20 years ago I would completely agree that China was a paper tiger.

Not so anymore. They are rapidly expanding their influence in the world, I encourage you to look at the grip they have on resource-rich nations in Africa. Their military is top-tier and they won't have problems with internal dissent like America will going forward.

Thats not how it works when everyone decides to use their currency as their reserve currency, or even their regular one for daily transactions.

Little pissant countries like Jamaica suddenly use the Chinese gold back Yuan, and your economy dies over night.

The result is that China within the span of 1 year switches positions with the US, and keeps all of the manufacturing too. Youd lose everything, they gain everything.

They would boom, youd be a third world country.

Federal Reserve only holds 5% of the US's total gold reserve.

95% of it is in deep storage at various facilities. Ft. Knox being the most famous, and actually having been sealed and undisturbed since 1986, with the seals having been replaced once in 2010.

Unless someone spent the last 30 years silently tunneling into the vaults and through steel and concrete bunker and slowly and laboriously removed the gold without selling it, I highly doubt it has been touched.

It is an important move for China, but this, whole thing is being misrepresented.

China will begin its competition with London & New York and attempt to create the equivalent of the London gold fix but in Chinese yuan on April 19th. Top Chinese banks, alongside Standard Chartered and ANZ, will be among 18 members to join a new yuan-denominated gold benchmark that signals China’s biggest step towards making the yuan convertible.

China is not making its currency backed by gold and the USD and Yuan will still be convertable.

All China is doing is making a competitive structure to set the price of gold each day.

This is currently only done in London and the price they set is used globally.

The sky is not falling. If anything we might start getting a more realistic price for physical gold rather than one forced down by ETF's (paper gold).
